Question Things to buy for a new 2023 23FBT

Starshine should be delivered this week. I bought a few things since it's SW Florida where it's already HOT and it will need A/C. Items so far include 20-30 dog bone, surge protector and a Bloockhead trailer coupler lock (we live on a public street and can't hide the 23FBT).

Things I know we need:
1) sewer hose - likely the Camco 39631 which is 20' but can compress to 32" as we had this with our Sprinter, clear right angle fitting

2) Camco 39758 sewer fitting wrenches
3) 25 or 50 foot 30 Amp power cord (had Cable Matters with Sprinter)
4) pressure washer cleaner - Meguiars?
5) water filter

We'll wait until the new F150 gets here to buy a Blue Ox or similar although the AS dealer said with Ford max tow package we wouldn't need a sway system until we plan to go to a windy area like the western US.

We had lots of stuff with the Sprinter but I also had to plan for engine and other mechanical stuff. Got a good list you can make available?

There is a great thread about the 2023 23' Flying Cloud FBT in the Flying Cloud section that you may want to check out. They are essentially the same campers.

Regarding the new F150 with "Max Tow." It doesn't do anything more for sway control than the standard tow package. It basically has a slightly beefier rear axle and the rear brakes have 4% more stopping power. You will need a weight distribution hitch, and Ford states that for anything 500 pounds or heavier tongue weight requires this. So, go ahead and order the Blue Ox SwayPro 750 from Amazon and install it yourself. It's super easy, and a lot cheaper than ordering it from the dealership. Blue Ox AND Airstream have EXCELLENT videos for doing this, and since I have the same truck and the 23FBT, you could probably use my settings. Let me know...

Your trailer will include a 25' 30 amp shore power cord. I personally have never needed a wrench to install/remove my dump hose. Many dealers will include a gift card or credit toward dump hoses and other accessories from their shop.

Blue Ox

99% going to get the Blue Ox SwapPro - they partnered with AS so it should be a safe bet. I watched the videos - seems simple enough as long as the "saddles" will clear without modify the 23FBT. There really isn't a hitch shop near me that could do this - I'll just pull everything out on the street and set it up - we have very little traffic.

I did buy a 25 foot 30Amp extension cord - a couple of years ago with Sprinter we were some place where the water, sewer and power were spread out.

The "saddles" will fit perfectly on the frame right behind the propane tank cover. Just measure 19" back from the center of the hitch ball to the center of the saddle and tighten it down. I purchased a 300# torque wrench and the correct socket from Amazon as well. It requires 257 ft lb of torque on the two bolts that hold the head to the shank. The model that will position the hitch at the correct height is: BXW0750-S SwayOri 750 lb 9-9 RCVR hitch.

750 refers to the spring bars. 9-9 refers to the 9 holes on the receiver shank. The 7 hole model does not allow the tongue height to be low enough for the Airstream. 19" is really a pretty low travel trailer. My Tab400 was, I believe, 21.5 inches if I remember correctly.

With the '21 F150 and the FC trailer, I have the ball height set at 19.25" height without trailer. The trailer takes it down to about 16.75". The SwayPro750 spring bars, on the 9th chain link, brings the trailer tongue height back to 18.75", which is about as perfect as one can get it.

The other site referenced in a previous post is likely this one.

what to buy

Here is a pdf extract from our packing checklist which I have adapted to show items purchased (and omitting the long lost of items to check etc.). A bit rough as done quickly but may prompt a few ideas for you...

Question BLue Ox

Lots of opinions on this. When I can be mobile again after my hip surgery tomorrow and the F150 is in the driveway I'll think I'll order:

BXW0750-S 750 lb 9-9 RCVR - this is apparently the correct model for AS especially a 2023 23FBT. Probably OK for a 25 or 27 as well. I note that some people get the 1000 lb bars - but then the truck ride is likely to be rougher.

First I'll order a Sherline LM-1000 trailer tongue weight scale and then make a 3D printed spacer for it. Maybe a 2000 but I'll loose some gauge accuracy.

Looks like the best place considering returns is the big "A". I really don't much about "et" but looks like the customer pays for returns which on something that's about 90 lbs would be expensive.

Thoughts:
750 lb bars
Sherline scale LM-1000

Check Lists

The following lists from Airstream are quite helpful. They include a comprehensive packing list, arrived and departure checklists. The packing list is also a great guide for knowing what to buy.
