BTW, if we were still in a trailer, we'd be in a 23FB instead of the 27FB we used to own. No rear view out the lounge, but for the win it's a smaller unit.

I like the front bed for privacy in the living area. With a front bed unit, the settee is facing the woods when you back into a site. Since we keep the curtains closed in the bedroom, its position doesn't matter . . .

This a lot of the time and if we want the ventilation and open things up, typically during the day when privacy matters a little less, and if we’re in a secluded spot it doesn’t matter anyway. [emoji846]

Just monitor the hitch weight for any FB ... it eats up your TV capacity ...

Not an issue if you have the right TV

27 fbt

Not sure there is a rear bed 27 international for 2021 or 2022. The rear bed 25 and 28 have a higher tongue weight than the 27 FB. I'm guessing you can "load" the rear to remove weight off the tongue.
Love our 27FBT, but for a single guy the 25FBT might be the ticket, larger bathroom, slightly easier to park in small State and NP and you don't need the larger wardrobe and pantry. which we love and thus our choice of the 27.

For me and the 80% of the time I am not using it for a TV, the ride and maneuverability of a 350 would be a PIA. I can watch my weight a little. I take all we need.

I know... I know wrong thread I couldn't help myself..... plus he started it

If I was traveling alone, and primarily looking at HH golf course sites, I’d pick a 27FB with the queen bed. I’d also get a 3/4 ton pickup with a big cap that I could park a generator in and run the AC in the trailer. I’d get the queen, for those times when a queen is preferable. It’s not healthy to be alone all the time... If you’re not taking a dog along, floor space isn’t a big deal. The living area in back gives you a great view and more distance from the generator I just mentioned. Who actually cares about storage compartments? I guess I’m selfish, I’m in those storage compartments fairly seldom. I’m in the living area at the rear a bit more often. I just wouldn’t pick a trailer based on storage door location. We have a rear bike rack and wouldn’t want a rear storage compartment.
If you get a 3/4 ton gas engine, you won’t have to worry about tongue weight. I’d get 2 ACs also. I’m assuming you’ll be in warm weather as much as possible for golf.
Hope this helps. Good luck on your choice.

Ah, now you're into the oddness of model names vs. actual length. Turns out the 27FB is actually an tiny bit longer than a 28RB. If I'm not mistaken, the 25 models are actually about 26' long. I think the 23 models come in closer to the length their model name implies. I have not looked at specs for the 26 models.

Anyway, check the specs for each model and you'll find that in many cases the model name and the length diverge by a foot and sometimes even more. At the time we liked the floor plan of the 27FB better than the 28RB for our needs, but like most Airstream newbies we thought the 27FB was a foot shorter than the 28RB. The salesperson allowed us to believe that instead of informing us of the actual lengths. In the end it was of course a wash and we loved our trailer while we had it, but...check the specs if you're concerned about actual length of any Airstream trailer.

Oh, and in our experience, the same for tongue weights. For example, the 25 is famously tongue-heavy for its length. Oh, and Airstream's claimed tongue weights will likely be lighter than what you'll actually experience on the road. For example, when tongue weight is claimed to be 10% of the total rated weight of the trailer, assume it's going to be closer to 12-13% of that weight.

Newbie Question: Choosing the FBQ or RBQ for 25-27 International

I am very close to purchasing a 2021 International...either the 25 or the 27, have not decided just yet. I am single, 62 and a golf addict. My dream is to travel the country, live in the AS full time, and play golf at as many different courses as I can. I recently joined Harvest Host, they do have a golf package, where you can camp on their property for free, as long as you play a round of golf, which is not a problem!!

FYI, I love the International aesthetics, especially those sliding backlit cabinets. That automatic front awning demo was much slower than expected, though.

ANYWAY, my question is: what works best, the FRONT bedroom, or REAR bedroom? I heard earlier (on this forum) that the front bedroom, not so much, because it adds weight to the hitch weight. Your advice is greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much!!

Dorsey

Very personal (and sensitive) question. I prefer the RBQs for these reasons, when I’m inside my AS I am not typically at the dinette, but in the bedroom. The back end of the trailer almost always seems to end up where the view is (in my experience). It’s probably also wiser to sleep in the back than over a hitch and propane tanks, but probably doesn’t matter. With all of that said, the back entry door is cool and I can understand why people like them.

I also lived and traveled the country for some time solo, I went with the 25, I like the 27 though, but again the 27 mostly just for the cool factor. I’d get a 27 if I were in a relationship no kids. A 23 or 25 as a single man. A 30 bunk if I had kids. A 33 and a new black F350 if I were rich [emoji6]

As a single man I just love the East-West over the North-South bed and the view that gives me. A 27 will put your head facing down the hall of your trailer vs out the wrap around windows while in bed...just something to think about. This is the main reason I prefer the 25 to the 27 and the RBQ.

*The 27 only comes in FBQ. I think about AS’s in feet typically, not “decors”, I think that helps to better understand.
