New toilet seat...

We recently picked up a new 2020 28 RB International Serenity and love it!
We traded our 25 Flying Cloud FBT. Before we traded the Flying Cloud in, I removed the upgraded toilet seat we had installed (open horse collar type) and replaced the OEM toilet seat. I installed the open horse collar seat this morning on the International and was a bit surprised to find that our new trailer has a slightly larger toilet bowl - both in width and in length.
I can't seem to find anywhere what Dometic model is on our new 28 to order a properly fitting new "horse collar" seat. Does anyone know of a matrix or guide to what Dometic toilets come on what Airstreams?

You might try downloading the Airstream "Parts Book." On my 2019 FC, the toilet has an Airstream part number, but it states that the manufacturer is Dometic and also gives Dometic parts numbers for the components. From those, I was able to determine that our toilet is a Dometic 310. I bought Dometic's wood core slow close seat to replace our plastic one. Later I saw that someone commented that you could buy one at a hardware store, but the Dometic one was not expensive.

We who have owned a number of Airstreams, male and female restroom users, are SITTERS on the stool.

Men have bad eyes. Cannot shoot straight. Never clean up afterwards.

Men believe that the urinal at the Service Station leak, since men have bad eyes, cannot shoot straight, never clean up afterwards. It stinks and is slippery.

Some men have rifles. Some have 45 revolvers. Some had pea shooters. Target practice is for the rifle range... not in your Airstream for safety reasons.

OSHA 1970 required split toilets for Mens's Restrooms at the workplace. Those working the chainsaws cutting trees in the Forest did not need them. I made inspections in Wyoming. Some just took a hack saw and cut the front out of the solid stool for toilets in town. Cost: 0

Offices have urinals that may as well be watering plants and your pant legs.

Use the urinal wearing short pants... or use the outdoors and avoid the wind. Some may understand.

The last split toilet seat I saw being use properly was at a friend's home. It had a picture of his Blue Heeler and hanging over the stool. The stool was not a split seat. The Blue Heeler looked real smart.

More than likely you have a Dometic 310 Toilet. Call Airstream to confirm. If you have a 310 then you can get a really nice Dometic Soft Close Wooden Toilet Seat (White in color, they come in Bone also) Part # 385312073. Takes about 2 minutes to switch and is a perfect fit. We purchased from PPLmotorhomes.com....800-755-4775. Think it was about $45.00. One of the best inexpensive moods ever!

The Dometic brochure that I have does not list a Slow Close Seat for the 300 or the 320 Toilet. Hope this helps you out.

Dometic # is 800-544-4881 in Elkhart, Indiana. I have called them a couple of times and had good results with someone talking with me and answering questions. Your results may vary.

It is not complicated, measure the width and length of the bowl and then visit either Home Depot or Lowes to find a "Bemis Open Front Toilet Seat" that matches those dimensions. Prices run from $18 to $32.

there is a cross stitch embroidery pattern that can be sewn, framed and hung over the bowl that opines, "Stand closer dear, it isn't as long as you think."

Unfortunately, many people do not understand that a home toilet "aerosols" liquids when flushed, and that a low water bowl "aerosols" when urine hits it from a distance, so it can dampen the floor both using and flushing.

The point can be proven by hanging clean, dry paper towels over the cabinet door on the side and taped to the floor directly in front of the bowl. They don't make yellow paper towels. Wipe it down daily or Sit Down. Or be a really nice person both clean it AND be seated.

The toilet in an Airstream does not have more than three or four ounces of water. Even less if the seal leaks. Then zero. When a sitting or standing patron 'hits the PEDDLE', you are off the seat. Or very flexible and a great dancer, otherwise.

The toilets that have this high pressure cleansing... are not everywhere. Obviously not out West in DuBois,Wyoming. These are rare. Some Las Vegas Casinos have 'special stools' that can catch Human Beans, like myself... by surprise. Watch what levers you fiddle with...

The Airstream's toilet has a 'foot peddle' flush, which is like a Golf Cart towing a 34 foot Airstream in comparison. If you are dumping solids into the Dometic John in your Airstream... the curse of Acapulco will be stubborn and permanent. Building a 'sand castle' comes to my mind, but that is another story.

Can we all watch you trying to figure out why 8 gallons of water will indicate your Black Tank is FULL? Duhhhhhh....

Acapulco Cliff Divers restroom facilities were great. A galvanized trough. If you needed toilet paper, you tipped the elderly gal at the entrance for a roll upon entry. Much like modern pit toilets in the forests. Better bring your own. The Hotel kept tourists from coming into the hotel to use their facilities...

I enjoy these Toilet Discussions. It is a breath of Fresh Air, so to say from everyday discussions of Tire Pressures and Hitch options.

I was led to believe the 'split toilet seat' was to protect your dog while drinking, if it falls down. We do not have split toilet seats in our trailer or home. We love our Blue Heelers and a broken neck is a terrible way to spend the rest of your life. But they manage to use their water bowl. Men should as well.

I saw a sign posted in a rest room once, " We Aim to Please so Please Aim". That says a lot I think. I have an issue in our Airstream that I'm dealing with right now. Likely cause is simply "overspray". Has caused nearby woodwork to discolor and bath cabinet hardware to corrode. Need to be a bit more conscious of the happenings from now on.

Never stand when using the commode. Always sit. Especially if you are the male part of the couple. No muss, no fuss, no splatter, no spray, no stained woodwork or spotted flooring. Even at home!

I was taught from a very young age to stand only when using a urinal. Otherwise, sit and keep it neat and clean. In a small RV bathroom this is even more critical. One of the many reasons we have a 2019 FC 25 RBT is that is has a slightly larger bathroom area than the FBT model. More storage in the bath also. The FC 30 RBT also has this same bathroom.

I always leave the toilet seat up. That way, my wife knows I didn't pee on it.

You'll only leave the seat up once when she sits down directly on the bowl w/o a seat - I know from personal experience that does not make for a happy wife

I just picked up a 2021 25f GT and the toilet seat is plastic and sort of cheap. I decided to replace it with a nice wooden one with a soft closing latch. The problem is, of course, there is a custom top that covers a protrusion. What to do about that? This is what I did:

1) removed the original seat - photo 1


2) using a rockwell multi-tool, I carefully trimmed the custom top leaving the screw holes intact. Photo 2

3) mounted the new toilet seat and ran the screws thru the seat and then the two holes holding the custom cover. Simple as pie - looks and works great.

I would be interested to see if anyone else has a different solution?
