California registration increase
Anyone in California registered or renewed their license plate tags for 2018 yet? Curious what your fees are this year.

Wow! That's expensive!
The fee in PA is $17 per year, regardless of the value. But then again we are in PA!

It's frustrating to see the increase, but it's California. Living here means getting used to being taxed and fee'd for anything and everything. We have two vehicles and a travel trailer, it's going to be an absurd year of fee increases for us.

Please note that the sheet in the attachment is just the "increase" in the registration fee.
My renewal came in at $114 for a 1959 FC.
My work truck registration is basically a car payment. Ouch.

And you think you have it bad ...
I've got 7 registered cars and trucks + the Airstream that are annual renewals. This is going to hurt.
Good thing my other 5 trailers are PTI.
And 3 other trucks that are non- op and I'm not in a hurry now to put them back on the road.
And don't get me started about the weight fee on the pickups.

Our 2015 23 went up about $100. Not horrible for funding to improve CA roads. Encourages keeping your vehicles longer as the rate is based on current market value and will decrease with age. Also applies to all and does not exempt the electrics like a fuel tax would. Does not overtax the long distance commuter like a fuel tax would. Additionally, it's not double for two axles like the application of bridge tolls. Pat

The problem is that the last few times, or is everytime, the fuel and registration taxes have been raised with the promise of fixing the infrastructure the monies some how have ended up in the general fund. Hope the roads get fixed this time.

It’s called a Bullet Train, there was a reference to roads, but emphasized the new fees were for transportation.

Sorry to here this. Lived in California for 40 yrs. Moved 20 yrs ago to Virginia. Have not regretted this move, only wished that I'd done it sooner. I'd tell everyone in Virginia, ''the weather is colder, but the people are warmer'' than Los Angeles. Unless you live near the Ocean or in the Sierras.......it will only get worse.

In Minnesota, you would get a Benjamin back. My '59 costs $14.

I am about to register my Airstream in Virginia and was contemplating California. I hate paying yearly property tax on my vehicles. Is the TT taxed yearly like enclosed trailers and cars are?

Folks, at points, this thread became more about politics than about Airstreaming or providing useful information for Airstreamers about fee changes in CA, etc. Thus, Site Team has cleaned it up a bit.
Please, folks, review the Community Rules and proceed, with the understanding that Site Team is watching this thread.

Yes, but a lot less than California, also registered as permanent Virginia trailer. Having a senior moment right now, will have a number for you on Monday. What happened to the sales tax rate in California ? Use to be one flat rate for the whole state. Now it varies from town to town, county to county. Can be over 10%, how confusing

Many local cities can get taxes set up to pay for projects such as light rail, bussways and other infrastructure stuff. It can cause tax rates to vary a bunch...

Yes, registration fee is yearly. BUT- our Reg. fee last year was $637, this year we get a flat $175 increase. We bought our TT last year so we also paid $7,000 in sales tax. California is a mismanaged bottomless pit of taxation and fees.

I paid $32 for my current Airstream trailer tag. I paid the same amount for my little red 8ft utility trailer. Flat rate. Mississippi.

Prince William Co VA has no property tax on personal use travel trailers.
