Airstream production cut back

My wife saw this posted in a facebook group she is in. We just ordered a 27FBT so we don't have a production date yet. Original expectation from the dealer was December....not sure now.

I would guess late January unless their plan to slowly ramp back up is effective. I was Aug 26 and went to Aug 30. I'll check next week to see if that is holding. I'm going to sell our 2019 FC but need the in and out dates to work. Good luck. Hopefully, they will get the quality issues and supply chain improved. I have to respect the plan they have.

Hi

With COVID spiking again, I'm not real surprised they are taking action. At least this time there seems to be a bit more of a plan involved.

It's a bit surprising that the touring coach part of the business is not impacted. I guess that's good news for those of us with orders in for Interstates ....

My date was or is August 27th, so I am encouraged based on your dates that my date will not change by much. Let us know if the 30th holds up for you.

I just got an update from Airstream. Our completion date of August 27th is now punted to September 23rd. Of note; Our original August date had one week between start and finish. Our new September date has two weeks between start and finish. Assume they are building in more leeway.

While no one likes to hear this type of news it is apparently a necessary adjustment.

To willingly sacrifice sales to better insure quality and delivery promises makes a positive statement by the management of AS.

I hope you are correct in this assumption. I don’t mind waiting if I’m getting a quality product.

Wow, when I check next week I may get punted more as well. Which model did you order? Ours is a Classic and only one has shipped that I know of.

Is your Vin # in the vicinity of 59193 series by chance, which is set for completion Sept 2nd now(8/23 originally and 8/8 updated July)?

Strictly speaking, it sounds more like an acknowledgement of production delays than a planned cut back.

We ordered an International 25 FBT. I understand most or all of the Internationals, including furniture, is built in house at Jackson Center. The Classic requires external providers for more components, so Airstream has less control over the build and completion dates.

Yes, but I’m not sure the Vin# alone tells the story. Different models are completing at different times. Thus a Globetrotter might have very different timing than a Flying Cloud, as they might have all the components for the FC, and be waiting on components for the GT.

Probably a little of both. Let’s face it, it’s a luxury item only. For me being built correctly, with quality, is more important than timing.

Hi

You also could call it a capacity constraint. It's obviously been a tough year for supply chains and that isn't going to change soon. I'd also bet they are looking at a virus spike in their area now or in the near future. How much is it one vs the other? .... who knows ....

If you do the maths, a reduction from 100% to 85% will increase your delay by 1.1765. With a original estimate of December at 4 months, 4 * 1.1765 = 4.7 months; or about a three week delay; if the original estimate was accurate and the reduction is efficiency holds steady.

Not sure it will be that straight forward. If you believe that this is being done for both supply chain and quality issues, different models will probably suffer different delays.

Hi

If your delivery is far enough out, who knows if this production change was factored into it before you got your date ... Lots of variables and really no way to know.

All dealers are different. The larger dealers are allocated more trailers than the smaller dealers, so the wait time is different by dealer, and then different based on the model.
