This is a Good Sam and Escapee’s listed campground.
Local Attractions: We toured local attractions and found them to be reasonably priced and interesting. These include:
The Cornish Pump and Mining Museum has exhibits of iron mining equipment and features the largest stem engine & pump ever built in North America. This pump is huge! Over 54’ tall with a 40’ flywheel and weighs 160 tons.
WWII Glider and Military Museum. This is at the same location as the Cornish Pump and has on display 1 of 8 remaining WWII Waco combat gliders along with patterns, jigs and plans for building them. They were made by Ford Motor Co in a local factory that also made wood frames for Model A bodies and all the Ford “Woody” wagons. Ford Model A’s are on display including a fire truck, dump truck and a later woody wagon.
Big John’s Iron Mine. Tour includes equipment exhibits, a short ride into the mine on an underground mine train and a walking tour thru some passages to a large cavern.
“Ski-ters” water skiing show on Wednesday evening. This is an informal, free donation encouraged, show only minutes away on a nearby lake where one of the top rated water ski teams in the country show off everything from their jumping and competition routines to young family members just learning to jump.
Menominee Range Historical Museum – former Carnegie Library with exhibits about life in the late 1800’s thru early 1900’s.
Other nearby activities include Fishing, Boating, Hiking, ATV trails, River Rafting, Kayaking, Canoeing, Bird Watching and Golf.
