Sounds like a great rally! Manzanar is a profoundly moving experience - not to be missed. All the vintage aluminum is nice too

How cool!

Horseshoe Meadows, Mt Whitney, the Dolomite Mine, Sierra Gordo, the almost ghost town of Darwin, the old salt tram from Saline to Keeler, bristlecone pines in the White Mountains, ... and on the way in (or out) there's Death Valley, Mono Lake, Yosemite, Las Vegas, Zion, Lake Powell, Colorado...

Love it. Zep

We are hoping that we have adequately planned activities for this Region 12 VAC Rally but believe it or not, we are already planning for 2014 VACwest!! This is an inaugural rally, but no less a great VAC Rally.

I am really excited for this rally and to tell you the truth, if only 5 other rigs show up, I am sure we will have a fantastic time! This is a rally with lots of planned activities and we expect that it will be a great weekend.

Just a few issues to work out and our sign up form will be up and running.......

Tim, your are listed as WBCCI, VAC, TAC and listing on AIR FORUMS. So, which group is invited to your rally?

An UPDATE?

Anything new on the plans? It sounds like a fun place and we know people down there - and spring is coming up here!

Charlie, this Rally will be for WBCCI Members. VAC Membership is not required, but it is a VAC Rally - we are hoping that non-VAC members will join the VAC at the rally.

We are still working the details on pricing for this rally. We want to provide a lot of value for the price, but we do not want to have the rally be too expensive. I know I said that registration would open last week. But it is going to be a little longer before we open. I know many are making plans for trips this year - we will open registration as soon as we can.

Just a heads up, we will open registration no later than the middle of May. Just a few issues to iron out and we will be 'rollin.
BTW, the camp ground is beautiful! The group area will pack in a few trailers and the rest we will work to pack in where we can get away with. If you haven't seen the camp grounds yet I posted a picture HERE. We will all be close together and it will be a great rally.
The schedule is being updated as we go along and add things - and we are adding things to make it fun. Better start brushing up on y'er cowboy lingo - y'er gonna need it to survive! Saturday will be 'Talk Like Cowboy Day". Without the lingo, y'all wont know what an Arbuckle is - and you wont git one anyway ifin 'ya cant say it right. Want some Overland Trout and Cackle berries? Need some Love Apples??? We'll give 'em to ya. Got a Wasp's Nest to share? Know how to float a horseshoe - y'er our new best friend. You will figure it all out.

Nice panorama, Tim.

Someone should volunteer to take a group up to Cero Gordo...

I'm wondering how many rigs they are planing on showing up. From the looks of it it's a relatively small area. Also the weather is a concern with no electric. Could be a tad warm for the dogies. I'm planing on going. Just have to see how it goes. It would be the first time down a dirt road with the rig.

Chris, the loop around the group area is not what I would call small, but everybody will be close enough together to be able to meet and greet without having to walk a long distance to get there. The farthest parking space from the group area is maybe 500 feet and the space between camping spaces is about 100 feet, so we are close, but not too close. Each spot is deep with plenty of parking for any size rig or tow combination. If we were in an RV Park, we would be on top of each other. That would have been all of us in a small space.
Yes there is a dirt road that starts at the entrance of the campground - but the road is reasonably smooth. In fact, I would say that the paved road leading to the campground was harder to navigate because there is 5 or 6 big speedbumps that you will have to go very slow over. Besides, Airstreams have had to traverse rougher roads and survived that those in the campground. This is a well maintained and clean BLM Campground. It is not some offroad hideaway that is not maintained.

As for weather, the average daytime temperature the same time last year was 75 degrees with the peak being 82 which is not too warm with the windows open. However, the camp ground does allow generators so if you need to run the AC you can. We bring our cats with us while on the road and we have been from Death Valley to Berlin–Ichthyosaur State Park - the cats have survived every location we have suffered them.

This is a nice campground, clean and well maintained. It will be an enjoyable venue. Dark skies at night. I might have to bring along our telescope.

OK Folks, registration for VACwest's Inaugural Rally is now open!! You can go to the VACwest site to see all of the rally details. Space is limited so register early. We will have a standby list if this rally fills up.

I just added an updated schedule to the site. You can see it at Schedule. If we make any changes I'll let you all know.
