What we have here is a rare chance for someone to own a piece of history. Back in
1958 Wally Byam himself built about a dozen, This is one of the first 4 produced of these specially spec'd campers for overseas travel naming them the World Traveler. His personal one is sitting up in Jackson center and is Gold anodized to set his specially apart. This particular one came to us from the woods of Tennessee where the interior was gutted and not salvagable. We tried to keep with the spirit and design of the original layout but made some revisions. The interior was completely gutted even further to replace the subfloor, all wiring, insulation and plumbing. All wood seen is walnut and not particle board, the insulation used is eco friendly r13 recycled blue jean material keeping the bad stuff out of your lungs, even the walnut was cleared with water based to ensure no harmful chemicals were used. Brand new dometic penguin ac/heat pump unit, 4 burner stove, microwave oven and refrigerator freezer combo were installed to ensure trouble free camping. The tanks are all new with gorgeous deep sinks and nice fixtures complement the look of airstream life. All seating surfaces are brand new upholstery of course, the center bed does pull out and is overstuffed to feel like your bed at home. The front dinette does drop down and pieces fit together for more sleeping area. Up above you will see a tin tile ceiling which adds some character and a vinyl homage to world traveling life above the dinette. In the rear there is a fantastic fan installed with bi directional operation and rain sensor. Tires were replaced in 2017 with less than a thousand miles. Lights are all new LED fixtures minus the tail lamps.
What still needs done...
The plumbing has been mostly finished and i have a leak at the shower drain which just needs the floor clearanced better as thicker subflooring was used to ensure none of that squishy feel.
A vent needs run for the plumbing.
A toilet needs installed, tanks were arranged so that 3rd tank could either be black or grey. Right now arranged for grey. If you are running a compost toilet just bolt it in and go, wiring already there for compost toilet fan.
After those are done the underbelly can finally be insulated and sheeted, we do have all of the insulation for underneath.
And of course polishing.... I have done a single cut of compound on one side and you can see the results it looks much much better but its a lot of work.
I dont have time or facility to finish the repairs we are currently living out of our newer Airstream out of state and need this one sold quickly as our house is for sale. I have family and friends always available to show it and help with whatever you need. Feel free to ask any questions you have.
More photos available upon request, I have photos of start to current date.
Thank you,
Chris and Jess
