Tired of being relegated to the fully powered sites that always seem to be sold out. This Globetrotter underwent a major solar, lithium and inverter upgrade! When the powered sites are sold out, enjoy the selection of rustic sites, often the best sites out there!
The batteries have been switched to Lithium Ion, Safari brand. There are now 3 100 amp hour Safaris onboard. The batteries were also relocated from the trailer tongue, reducing, not only the overall weight, but reducing the tongue weight.
The 5 100w solar panels are Zamp Black Obsidian and rated at 108w, giving a total of 540 watts. This is expansion room, not only on the roof but also has been prewired to the solar junction. Based on energy production, it appears the 6th panel would be overkill for the majority of folks.
Also onboard is a new Victron MultiPlus 3,000 watt inverter, which also houses an onboard Lithium charger. This allowed the removal of the original Airstream charger/controller/inverter, which has historically been a weak spot. At any rate, with a 3,000w Victron, you can run things like hair dryers, InstaPots or anything else in that range of consumption.
Solar and Lithium system was designed by AM Solar, while the design for the new inverter was provided by Lew Farber. Both AM and Farber are the leading companies in their industry, both focused Airstream conversions.
