Imagine a clean modern loft feel in a classic “vintage” Airstream.
Iris, (our eldest daughter named her), is an original, Sovereign-Land Yacht 31-foot classic Airstream. We found Iris high above the Santa Cruz, CA, mountains. Barely her true self, and after much research, we chose to design her with and have her rebuilt a new by Hofmann Architecture, of Santa Barbara, CA. The world’s leading design firm specializing in mobile space design. Iris was originally intended for our family’s global road-trip adventures. However, she only enjoyed one outing to the beautiful Oregon Coast. Since, she’s been safely stored on our property and served as a “creative studio” and extra space for our guests.
This wasn’t an easy decision but we’ve decided to sell our beloved Iris. And serve another on their adventures.
THE DETAILS
No expense was spared during Iris’ transformation back into the perfect-modern Airstream she always intended to be. We kept her original body “outer shell” and her bottom skin. All else was completely “gutted” and rebuilt a new. Beginning with the chassis for long term travel and road tripping. All design, appliances, wiring, plumbing and furnishings are completely new and custom for complete comfort and a unique experience of what life in a mobile home can be. And she’s also been retrofit with solar panels, extra storage and a composting toilet for an active and adventurous lifestyle thanks to her “off-the-grid” functionality.
DESIGN HIGHLIGHTS
The mid-bath floor plan features a “U” shaped dining table in front that easily converts into sleeping for two thanks to a sturdy hydraulic gas assist table leg.
The mid-bathroom entry is a surface sliding door that faces a generous kitchen area with plenty of food prep and storage space. Next to the kitchen is a mid-coach sofa/children’s nook that can triple as a twin bed, or extra closet.
In the rear of the coach is a generous master bedroom suite that offers complete privacy thanks to another surface sliding door. There’s generous storage tucked below the bed and above thanks to an overhead bunk.
The overall design aesthetic is contemporary cool. Imagine a “New York Loft” in a classic Airstream. White walls balanced with soft toned flooring create an inviting, spacious space.
