Title: 1970 Airstream
Sovereign 31 - Florida
I just posted a new ad on Airstream Classifieds.
This 1970 Airstream 31’
Sovereign is fully titled in SC, and has been totally reworked in 2017. We have been full-timing it in for the past year, and weathered one hurricane and the January east coast ice storm comfortably. Unit came off the line in January, 1970.
Mechanically, it has new Dexter axle/hub/brake/shock assemblies with Centramatic wheel balancers, new Goodyear radials, reworked electrical system, new pex ½” supply lines, new Dometic Penguin AC unit with heat pump, and new subfloor in areas where it was compromised. Frame members were inspected where subfloor was compromised, but no indication of damage. There are a total of ten grounded 110v outlets inside, two outside. There are two cigarette lighter ports for
12v and USB charging. Interior lighting has been changed to 2-level LED lighting. Basically, ALL systems and appliances are new.
It was refitted with a new Nature’s Head composting toilet, ‘eliminating’ the need for dump stations and sewer lines, converting the former black-water tank to exclusive use for grey-water (new Thetford valve).
Maple laminate flooring in the living area provides a rich look, and cedar paneling in the closet areas keeps things fresh and repels insects. Kitchen features a 5’ oak base cabinet with 6’ counter and carefully thought-out additional storage, a two-burner stovetop, and a new vent fan connected to the original exhaust. Antiqued thermal flashing adds a luxury touch behind stove top. Refrigeration is provided by a new Norcold 6.0 cubic foot refrigerator/freezer, powered by 12v/110v/propane, for all situations. There is a passive ceiling vent at the rear of the Sub, and a Fantastic Fan,
12v reversible powered, toward the bow. The original bathroom vent fan still works.
Sleeping area features a full-size memory foam mattress on a 14” Zinus smart-frame that allows loads of storage underneath – could easily accommodate a queen bed. There is a convertible single bed/sofa in the dining/office area.
A Sherwood 10-gallon electric/propane powered hot water heater is fed by a new 3-gpm filtered electric water pump, or by shore water pressure. New water pressure regulator. Shower assembly is a modified rain barrel. Freshwater system features a 45-gallon reservoir. Outdoor supplemental shower/wash station.
Heavy-duty canvas awning, 9’x 14’, one year old.
Ceramic “5-factor” limo tinting has been done on all windows and Vista-views. Two passive roof vents plus one Fantastic fan over the bed. All exterior joints have been sealed.
Twin 30-pound original aluminum propane tanks were recertified, and all propane lines rechecked and refitted. Front tow yoke has been fitted with new safety chains and hooks.
In this project, attention was given to reducing weight, increasing interior airflow, maximizing storage, and delivering an eclectic look with extraordinary roadworthiness. Two levels of exterior polish have been applied – have additional supplies.
This 31’
Sovereign is ready for weekends, full-time, or to retire as an Air(stream) BnB.
Reese weight-distributing hitch with sway control ($895) included with acceptable offer.
