Title: 1970 Airstream Overlander 27 - Arkansas
I just posted a new ad on Airstream Classifieds.
This is a 1970 27" Overlander. I am an Airstream nut, and have spent years researching these older models. This one is 90% original with very few updates, changes, or customization. As far as I can tell, just the flooring has been changed, no carpet, now vinyl tile. Also updated at some point, the power converter, battery, stereo, trailer emergency break.
This AS is at just the right tipping point to either be restored to its original 1970 condition and ascetic (my suggestion) or to be remodeled into your custom design. You could gut it and turn it into a kitchen on wheels.....but I think that would be a waste because it's all here, including the hitch and sway bars. I even have the original owners manual and lots of documentation over the past 47 years.
I found this Airstream for sale online on a farm in South Arkansas on a Friday, and drove 5 hours the next morning, hooked it up, and pulled it up to Fayetteville AR. That was two years ago. I bought it as a toy with plans to clean it up and use it, but have unfortunately not had time to touch it.....we had a baby :) So, I don't foresee getting to play with this thing anytime soon.
Here is what I know and don't know.
-The body is in GREAT condition.
-The electricity works. Inside and out. Tail lights, blinkers, everything as far as I can tell.
-The AC works great, gets very cold very fast.
-The pluming works when hooked up to a water source (garden hose). By that I mean the sinks and shower runs. I have no idea how the fresh and grey water tanks perform.
As with nearly all Airstreams there is has a bit of subfloor decay, but only in the bathroom around the pluming.
I was told the propane furnace works, but have never touched it.
I was told the propane oven works but have never touched it.
I was told the propane hot water heater works, but have never touched it.
I also don't know if the fridge works, it's the original propane powered unit.
It is missing one set of cushions. It has two full sets.
The subfloor in the very back around the sing is water damaged. It will need some repair at some point.
In summary, this thing is cool. It's in very good original condition. I hope whoever buys it keeps it up properly and uses it regularly. I wish I had the time!!
