Title: 1969 Airstream Safari 23 - Wisconsin
I just posted a new ad on Airstream Classifieds.
This has been our labor of love the last few years. This is a renovated 1969 airstream safari. This is the perfect weekend getaway trailer or perfect for a guest home on your land or driveway. We have used it for both. This has been built for smaller trips and has been stripped down to the bare essentials with a rustic farm style look to it that has turned heads. We have taken this to Florida and back and all over the state of Wisconsin. Easy to tow, and very lightweight vs other trailers. We tow with a v6 nissan pathfinder.
The Work:
-Bought it as a completely original trailer. It had bad subfloor, sunk axle, bad wires, wood rot, bad appliances, etc.
-We completely stripped it down to the frame, dropped the belly pan, sanded and fixed the frame, re-insulated underneath, added new subfloor, cleaning the walls, re-wired, re-insulated, put the walls back on, put a new axle on, painted, added new lights, fan, and outlets, rebuilt the inside, so the works.
New and done:
-new torsion axle with electronic brakes, new subfloor with painted edges to repel water,
all new AD / DC wires, outlets replaced, lights replaced (all DC), fantastic fan installed, new 30 amp input with detachable cord, 2 100 watt solar panels (not installed), rebuilt bargeman door handle, new pergo flooring, new customer dinette with cushions, new reflectix insulation (outer), new roxul rockwool insulation (inner), while skins were removed, cleaned inner walls and also sealed with vulkum for leaks, reinstalled original skins after cleaning and pained, custom concrete counter tops, farm sink with farm faucet, custom blinds, new screens installed on all side windows, new power dynamic power distribution system ( run off 30 amp AC and distributes to DC and charges battery when plugged into shore power), wired for water heater and a cook top while skins were off (not hooked up), custom dinette table with retractable leg, re-wired 7 pin plug, custom bunk beds with underneath storage, dc fan added by bunkbeds, reclaimed wood accents, clear coat 90% removed ( not polished), frame sanded and repaired then coated with rustoleum, new city water input with lex plumping, propane removed, the black and gray water tanks were removed (sink is fed by city water input then dumps its gray water into a bucket under the sink to remove), custom shelf in front end cap, added mini fridge in cabinets, weight distribution hitch is included.
Now things to note:
this is not a complete off the grid built machine. This is not a brand new airstream. This is a nearly 50 year old travel trailer that has been rebuilt for modern use. There are dents, scratches, dings. It is not perfect, nor 100% complete or the perfect layout for you. Every piece on the inside can be moved or removed. The bunk beds and counters are easily removed with a few bolts and you can easily change the layout. The battery is not hardwired into the system, and can be removed or relocated. The windows do not leak, but they could use new seals. Again, there is not bathroom or shower. You can easily add in a compost toilet (this was actually on our to do list, but never got around to it), The interior is finished, but not 100% done with trimming work. There is no heater or water heater. We do have a spot mapped out where a tiny wood stove was to be installed. The electric jack is not always hooked up to power. You need to hook the interior battery up to it to raise and lower it. The utility doors do not unlock (only the back hatch is accessible) There are two more hard wired spots to install two more DC lights on the interior. The clear coat is around 90% removed. we ran out of warm weather to finish last fall.
Finally:
I have plenty more picture and information if you need it. This is a beautiful vintage camper that is a head turner. It may not be for everyone, but for the weekend warrior, it may be perfect. We un-fortunelty are at a different point in our lives than we were when first endured this project, and decided on the tough choice to part with our labor of love.
$16,995 or open to reasonable offers. I am not interested in trades and you must come pick up the trailer. This is an AS-IS sale. for the work, this is way under valued even as a shell.
