1969 Airstream Safari (23 feet)
We purchased this Airstream Safari while living in Alaska. It has served us well and we have had many adventures, throughout Alaska, down to Florida, and everywhere in between. Our journey down the Alcan from Alaska to Tennessee was a pleasure; the Safari tows like a dream and our F150 doesn’t even notice it’s there (really). We hate to let it go but the family has grown and we have outgrown it. We have done our best to leave the original vintage style in place and update tastefully for the sake of comfort and safety, using neutral colors as a base to allow for easy redecorating over the years.
The original cabinetry remains throughout and includes the two original, full-size gaucho beds with newly-upholstered cushions. Beds are located front and galley.
The Updates:
- New tires and rims, with full-size spare tire. This camper tows beautifully!
- Brake plates fully replaced from the mounting plate up.
- New Air Conditioner with a heat strip. Plenty of cool air for trips south.
- Progressive Dynamics 12VDC/110V (30 amp supply) system and a new fuse panel. Both the
12V and 110V electrical systems work quite well and much of the lighting is original.
- New car-style stereo and speakers (both concealed in original cabinetry to preserve vintage appearance). CD, aux in, memory stick compatible.
- New drapery using original hardware
- Plumbing replaced with CPVC, new fixtures in kitchen, bath, and bathroom sink
- 110V refrigerator, microwave, and hot water heater. In the interests of disclosure, note that these appliances do not run on propane.
