1968 Airstream Tradewind 24 - California

Title: 1968 Airstream Tradewind 24 - California
I just posted a new ad on Airstream Classifieds.

Our 1968 Airstream Tradewind is ready to go camping in style. This Tradewind is 24 feet long hitch to tail, the shortest two axle trailer Airstream made at the time. 1968 is the last year of the classic all wood interiors with square corner windows and narrow body style. The following year, Airstream changed to formica and vinyl interiors and wider body which broke the link to the original Land Yachts.
After a long search, we found our Tradewind and had it towed to the Airstream factory and service center in Jackson Center, Ohio. The experts at Airstream inspected the trailer and performed the initial phase of renovation and restoration. All systems were checked for proper function and safety. Over $6,000.00 was spent to bring the trailer up to acceptable safety and operational condition. Airstream replaced the water heater, furnace, thermostat and power inverter. Modern safety features such as carbon monoxide and smoke detectors were installed as well. BAL stabilizing jacks as used on current model trailers were installed. In addition, the Airstream service center completed numerous small repairs and adjustments to ensure the trailer was safe and road worthy. We then towed the trailer from Jackson Center to our home in Northern California without any problems.
The interior has been beautifully restored. The Sunbrella curtains were made by Airstream specialists G&C Trailer. All cushions have been re-upholstered in stainproof Crypton commercial fabric. New laminate floors have been installed and the original cabinet doors were refinished. The stainless steel stove/oven (purchased directly from Airstream), counter tops and porcelain toilet are new since we purchased the trailer.
We had G&C Trailer add a gray water tank to allow us to camp responsibly in campgrounds without hook-ups. A quiet and efficient Shurflo water pump replaced the old Jabsco unit.
The exterior is original so has the patina of a nearly 50 year old trailer. There are no dents and the trailer could be polished to a brilliant shine if the new owner desires. The tail lights, running lights and back up light fixtures are new. Windows are the original curved Corning glass.
Mechanically, the Tradewind is almost new. In 2012 we installed new axle and brake assemblies. Axles are very important on Airstreams as they contain springs for the suspension. These springs are rubber and deteriorate over time. Any Airstream with axles over 20 years old almost certainly needs new ones. The shock absorbers were replaced along with the axles and brakes. Maxxis M8008 trailer tires were purchased in 2012 as well. A power tongue jack has been installed and a modern Atwood coupler replaced the original for safe and secure towing. A Reese weight distributing hitch is included.
The refrigerator and air conditioner came with the trailer and still function perfectly.
Included in the sale will be all the appliance and equipment manuals including the original Airstream owner's manual as well as receipts for the upgrades.
Recent trips taken include Yosemite, Death Valley, Monterey and Paso Robles, all without incident.
Don't expect to blend in at the RV park or campground with this trailer. People are always stopping by to check out the interior and admire the timeless charm of our Airstream. We absolutely love this Airstream and we're only looking to sell to upgrade to something a bit larger. If we could, we would keep this awesome trailer forever!
