1956 Airstream Flying Cloud

Historic Airstream for sale Durango, Colorado

Its time to pass on the caretaking of Louis Mousleys 501956 Airstream Heritage Flying Cloud. Louis and Mildred Mousley were Wallys right hand man on various European rallies as a wagon master/boss as Wagon Boss Louis was the first out of a campsite and the first one in no one passes the wagon boss if you have seen the wagon wheel parking that was his invention. Louis was a serious collector of sea shells and as such he built the Mousley Museum of Natural History which still exists to this day in Yucaipa Ca. I have many vintage photos of this trailer in Europe and Mexico as well as the 1957 National Geographic magazine that has photos and article on the European caravan this trailer was on. This Airstream was on many rallies including the1956 six month Europe caravan, fall 1956 Cuba, 1957 Mexico if you have seen the picture of an Airstream next to a pyramid, its this trailer and summer1957 Eastern Canada.

This Airstream has been restored as much as possible to its original condition. Original wood that was salvageable was used. A shell off floor replacement of the floor with marine plywood with epoxy edges and some exterior skin work was professionally completed by Area 63 Productions LLC . This Airstream has marine grade wiring, new pex plumbing, and new copper gas lines. It has a marine low amp draw fridge, lifeline battery and smart converter. Running gear was also professionally replaced with a new torsion bar axle and new 16 Michelin tires and new tongue

This Airstream was stored in a storage unit for many years. Since restoration it has been stored in a climate controlled garage.

This trailer has been a joy to own and restore The reason I am selling is because we have anew Airstream trailer that is getting used more and this one is not getting used. This Airstream is a very rare unit and one of the very few with as much photographic history as this one and willcontinue to appreciate over time.

Hello, love the Flying Cloud. We have a 74 Argosy we pull with a 79 Buick Estate Wagon. The picture of the FC looks to have what looks like a 54-55 Buick Roadmaster pulling it but I am judging that only by the cars roof line. I have a '54 Buick Roadmaster that we had strongly considered using to pull an Airstream. Could you possibly share more of the pictures that might show the vehicles pulling the Airstreams. Thanks
Lamar and Rita

It’s actually a Chrysler New Yorker pulling the trailer - I’ll post a picture later
