Overview Specs: 1947 Airstream Liner 22'
Model: 4761
Serial Number: 1006
Built at the Los Angeles Metropolitan Airport, June, 1947

At this time, this is the oldest known surviving post war Airstream built with a serial number of 1006. Purchased in July 2013, I plan on doing a total (and I mean TOTAL) restoration and reconstruction.

This is currently the oldest known surviving post war built Airstream - the 5th or 6th one built (depending on if serial numbers started at 1000 or 1001). It was built in June of '47,

After getting the trailer to Wisconsin, we recreated the famous 1947 photograph where Alfred Letourner pulled this exact Airstream Liner model (possible even this very trailer) with a Bicycle for a marketing program. The stunt proved so popular showing the light weight and efficiency of the Airstream trailer, the company went on to use the image as a logo badge on trailers made for the next several decades. We'll be posting video of that fun project soon at www.1947AIRSTREAM.com

Seems like this is the oldest existing post war airstream.

Found this old post with no replies even though it appears to document the oldest known post war serial number. Maybe this will reignite the conversation and the historical database will reflect it. How there are no comments on this 10 year old post of such a historic find is amazing.
