Hey, Lynn & Becky... We're glad you found us! We also have a 2006 19' (but a Safari SE LS)... Great little trailers, they are!

Hi there, TBRich! Thanks for the warm welcome!

I'm glad to report that our trip was a success and full of firsts:
- we got the hot water heater lit... Er, turned on.
- we figured out how the TV and stereo worked.
- we successfully lit the pilot on the stove and warmed up empanadas for breakfast.

And there you have it, a pretty awesome winter trip!

Ahh... The photos... We fell down on the job a little on this trip. Except for a few snappies of us having cocktails at a restaurant yesterday, all we have is this one that my dad took right before we headed home. That's me on the right.

Christmas beach camping

Had a great trip to the NW coast of Florida. My partner, Bernie, and I went w/our two schnauzers and my friend Terry (On Air is his airforums identity) and our respective 25' airstreams (his a 2006, ours a 1990).

It started out with a couple of days at an airstream-only park in Mystic Springs, then down to Sandestin for a couple of days in an incredibly beautiful state park there (Topsail Hill), and even one day right on the beach at Camping on the Beach (as seen in the Long, Long Honeymoon youtube videos).

We found out the addition that auxiliary LP gas heaters can make... warm, draftless ambient heating. He has a blue flame model and we have an Olympian (installed by the previous owner). That was very helpful as my Suburban furnace isn't coming on right now due to a circuit board issue. But, we got along just fine with the Olympian and the Coleman a/c/heat unit in the ceiling. Its the old 6798A model that heats, cools, recirculates, and even has a separate 'exhaust' mode.

That was the first time I've ever encountered below freezing temps at a beach. Living near the gulf here in AL, we just don't go to the beach when its that cold... we stay at home and build a fire in the fireplace... ha ha! And thats exactly what I did when I got home!

It was fun, though... each morning with Terry having the gourmet fresh-ground coffee ready and having interesting scenery to look out and enjoy while sipping coffee and having good conversation... plus just getting out of town and these four walls. And the beauty of Airstream travelling... staying a couple of days here, a couple of days there... being able to pick up and go to a new location in a matter of 30 minutes or less... WAY different than all the packing up we used to have to do in a pop up.

Happy New Year everyone!

Dan & Bernie

2 more pics

Here are a couple of actual beach scenes from that trip (taken by Terry). The inside shot was us eating something to warm us up in the frigid temps... red beans and rice!

Christmas day, though, we cooked the whole Christmas dinner in the Airstreams... us-turkey, green beans, rolls, apple pie; Terry- dressing, broccoli and cheese, and Asti (bubbly).

Since the next day was Terry's birthday, I made him brownies, but in a muffin pan because we like them chewy! Cold temps... good reason to bake to keep warm! Thats our story and we're sticking to it!

NOW we have to get back in the working out routine or else it'll be sticking to us...

Looks fun, even if it was cold! I'd love to camp on the beach.

Beach Camping is the best! We go twice per year just south of Phoenix to Rocky Point Mexico. Our merry band grew this trip by one rig.... TBRich and Greg Joined us for the last trip. We are heading back in May if anyone would like to join us.

It is an X5 - the V6! I love the way it tows! That said, it's the only car I've towed the AS with.

When buying, one of the reasons we wanted the 19' was because the weight fell well below it's towing capacity.

I could be making this up, but I feel that the low, pig-like shape of the X5 makes for good, stable feeling towing. The AS has anti-sway bars though so maybe that's why it's so stable back there.

We seem to get decent gas mileage, too. On the trip back from Colorado and driving in the Texas Hill Country this week, we were averaging 16.8 miles to the gallon.

When the day comes and it's time to buy another one, the only change we'll probably make is to consider getting the V8 to give it a little more power in the mountains but we'll only do this if it isn't at the sacrifice of gas mileage for our daily driving.

Hopefully next year (when we actually own an AS) we'll be able to join in! We lived in Tucson for a while but never made it to Rocky Point.

I took the 86 to Gulf shores AL this past March It was a bit cold and rainy, but still fun. Stayed at the state park. Can't remember name. It was right near downtown.
