800 watt solar installation & other modifications

Here is a link to photographs of the 800 watt solar system installation and other electrical modifications done to our 2014 Classic model 30. Major parts included eight 100 watt AM Solar panels, a Magnum MS-2800 pure sine wave converter/inverter and a Tri-Star 60 MPPT solar charge controller.

Due to the Magnum having contacts rated for only 30 amps on each pole, we had to install a new "Main" panel with a 50 amp breaker since we have 50 amp service capability. We then installed a two pole 30 amp breaker to send power to the Magnum plus removed the water heater, front air conditioner and refrigerator loads from the Airstream installed panel to the new panel so the Magnum load would not exceed 30 amps per pole.

The Airstream installed panel got a 30 amp dual pole main instead of the 50 amp main and the the two double 120Vac circuit breakers were switched to single circuit style breakers.

We also installed Maxim skylights, a FanTastic fan cover, a Voyager rear camera, a WiFi Ranger antenna system and a Verizon MiFi modem antenna.

The other major change was the conversion to disc brakes with the Titan disc brake controller and pump installed in the original battery box below the new battery box.

Great installation Switz! I'm looking to add a similar battery box to my 72 tradewind. Do you have detailed drawings of your battery box fabrication?
Thank you

Keep a careful eye on the A-frame condition as it enters the shell.

The added extra weight can and does all to many times, cause a failure in that area, to the extent that the A-frame in time, simply snaps off.
