What I like about twin beds

I will start
The best thing we discovered (we never thought about) was that we use the bedroom as our living room, having a 25 FC there is really not a comfortable area without making modifications, with the twin beds and use of pillows we both have a comfortable recliner to read or watch TV we hardly ever use the TV in the main area.
We also have more area for dressing and it is a lot easier on the mid night run.
What have you discovered going to twins?

I like absolutely everything about twin beds except the sleeping arrangement; we talked about converting our queen bed but it's not likely to happen.

We did convert our front dinette to a two recliner setup so it's a very good living room now.

CaptMac's story of seldom using the TV in the main area anymore has me wondering: why doesn't AS build a smaller-than-25' trailer with twin beds?

Seems like a great dual-purpose use of space; the Class B that I'm daydreaming about has just that arrangement.

We have had 25FBs with both the queen and twin configurations. We like the twin set-up mainly because of the additional outside storage lockers.

We love the twins in our 25 FB FC for the reasons you've described - it serves as a comfortable sitting area during the day. In fact, since we don't have huge storage needs, we removed the half wardrobe over the foot of the curbside bed (see picture), which lets someone sit against that wall, and also lets you sleep with your head at that end, if you choose. We like
-the great outside storage
-access to upper cabinets without climbing on the queen bed
-easy to make the beds
-think sideways queen isn't really a walk around
-queen really isn't a queen (when you're used to a king at home)
-has a real nightstand

What I don't like about Queens..

If you have a sleep alone type of guest ( like a mother in law, or a drunk brother ) they end up using up a lot of real estate.

I agree-- if they offered something similar to the 23FB with twins, we probably would have gone for it, for the same reasons CaptMac gives. We both really liked the bathroom layout in that model.

We also would not complain if twins were a regular option in the International series. That costs about $4500 more when ordering a trailer, according to our local dealer.

I like our queen bed except when I have to clib out of it in the middle of the night.

Cheryl... we feel the same way as you guys. The twin beds have some awesome features associated with them, EXCEPT the sleeping arrangements. And for us, that's a deal breaker. Like you, we're sticking with the queen bed and going with comfy recliners in the living room. The queen is still good for hanging out on during the day, especially if it's not a side-queen. All reasons why the 28-30' models appeal to us (straight queen, dinette, and recliners).

HOWEVER, if sleeping with one's partner wasn't so wonderful, we'd definitely go for the twins, as well... they are more versatile and offer some nice features!

Thank you for the great ideas of using the bedroom for our sitting area. We will have to give that a try,

Brian

When I saw my first Airstream inside, a 2009 25' Flying Cloud, I was disappointed with the bed arrangement- it was a queen bed running sideways. Then the salesman showed me a twin model. I was sold. The only problem was that the twin was a 2010 model and $$$. It worked out anyway as I bought a used twin model. The added extra floor space offered more room and the perks she shared- two more storage trunks and getting to those roof lockers without crawling over the bed made it a no brainer for me as far as decision making. Additionally the idea of a multi-use area is great too. I have used the back as a changing area, a second sitting area with several people visiting and it works. I would never select any other floor plan as far as bedrooms go.

I have contemplated how to improve the floor plan and have some ideas on bath and main room. The bedroom is great but I would change the design of the under bed access. Ironically I understand this was done in the new Classic twin.

Bowling Alley!

Seriously though, I think the twin floor plan really opens up the trailer compared to the queen layout, makes it feel larger, airier.

You know what would be great for families, twins with bunks over them. I want to see that.

Wife and I were thinking exactly that last night: 23' FC with dual panoramics, compact mid mounted shower/throne room, smallish dinette other end, heck even front bedroom while we're at it. I know, the 25' already has all of that, but I really like the idea of the new fuel efficient 2.7L F150, and that would be a perfect match for a FC23 FB Twin.

Beds are a wasted space

Well, I built it like I wanted it. I made my twin bed area in the rear of the 55 Safari into a real comfortable sitting and living area. AND, it is still a bedroom area too....both as a twin or a nice queen size. I removed the twins and when I built the cabinets I made enough room for a pull out couch bed. There is plenty of room as a twin sleeper and the pull out is a full queen size....leaving leg and movement room. I have a High Def TV on the cabinet wall for viewing and the mount lets it swivel out for viewing from the front booth area if wanted. The total effect of the way its built and decorated is a peaceful sitting area....like a den.

I think for a solo traveler who doesn't want to sleep with someone else, an Airstream with a single twin in the back would be great... that would make it an especially good and spacious second sitting room... put a recliner in there in place of the second twin. Definitely not an option for me, but for a solo traveler, I think it'd be great.
