Safety Recall Notice for LP Tank Trays

Just got a safety recall on my 2015 30" Bunk regarding the 1/4 x 14 self tapping screws that attach the LP tray to the frame. They need to be upgraded to 4-5/16 x 18 thread-cutting bolts. When I put the ProPride on I had to raise the tray to clear the new mechanics and thought the bolts looked a bit small.

Well lucky me as the trailer is still at the shop for warranty repairs. I'll call in a bit to get this done as well.

This subject needs to be pinned. It would keep down the multiple threads about it.

Good idea. I did a search and it did not come up.

Sorry.

Yup! Got my recall notice in yesterdays mail. Called my dealer this morning and he has to order the parts per trailer recall notification..............rather than being proactive and shipping the dealer 50 to 100 5/16" screws. AS will go broke in shipping at that rate.

Note to all

It has been addressed here a couple of time before, but I will hit it again for the benefit of new comers.

As has been said, the search function within the Airforums Website leaves a lot to be desired.

What I have always done when looking for older threads on certain issues is I do a Google Search, starting it with the word 'airforums'.

For instance, I just Googled, 'airforums bolt recall' and came up with this thread and a couple of other threads on this matter.

Used the following search command, site:airforums.com, in your search string and Google will confine the search to the forum only for the terms elsewhere in your string. It makes it very easy to drill down to whatever you want without results from any other web site.

Ill fix it my self no big deal. Engineers, always trying to get by with the lightest smallest that they test and say will work. Me, not an engineer, but had plenty working for me through the years and when they told me something I had our plant people double the spec. Never had a failure.

I contacted Colonial Airstream and they immediately gave me the following information regarding my 2014 Airstream Flying Cloud 27 ft. - "We are aware of this recall, and fortunately, your trailer is not part of it. The range of affected production numbers is 529068 to 533019, with yours being built prior to the issue (528612)." So... check your numbers - it's the last 6 digits of your VIN

New Lucy is 531020, so I guess she's included in the recall. I have not received any letter from Airstream yet.

Just spoke to the dealer. My warranty repairs are completed and they want me to pick the trailer up, but wait the repair bolts are not in and I will need to bring it back in at a later date. The bolts have to be ordered from Airstream per trailer vin #. Are you kidding me!!

To top it off the furnace vibration that was initially quite noticeable by the service writer apparently disappeared while it was sitting on their lot.

I am going to go over there now to check it out prior to picking it up tomorrow.

I just hate this stuff!!

I got the recall letter for Lucy today. It arrived via Standard Mail which is the old bulk rate/junk mail classification. I usually throw this kind of mail in the trash without opening it. I only opened this one because it was from Airstream. We must be considered really important to receive this notice via junk mail. It's lucky that we haven't moved recently because Standard Mail is not forwarded or returned to sender.

I suspect that the dealer who told you that these bolts have to be special ordered from Airstream by VIN is either full of crap or thinks that his customers are pretty stupid. If that were my dealer, I would tell him to have the new bolts installed when I picked up the trailer or he would never have any of my business again. These guys are unbelievable. You can buy these bolts at Home Depot. They're not doing brain surgery here.

It's a 2 day trip to my dealer, if some one will give me the exact bolt size and length I will go buy them and put them in myself
Thanks

The recall notice calls out 4-5/16" x 18 Thread-Cutting Bolt. I would guess anywhere from an 1 1/2" on would do the trick. I will need longer one due to spacing the tray up to clear the ProPride. So I assume the bolts being sent to the dealer by Airstream will most likely be too short.

Yes, Airstream is sending the bolts to the Dealer by notice or vin number in order to track liability. Has nothing to do with anything else.

I doubt the dealer would install anything else even if on their own shelves.

We got the recall notice also. This is the second recall on the unit (the first was to check the electrical cord plug), and we learned of the recall of a part of the zipdee awning at alumaflamingo. We had had 2 taillights go bad on a unit that is less than a year old. Our dealer gives us the same song and dance..we have to bring the unit into the shop; then they order the part to repair it. This is really an inconvenience to airstream customers like us who have to travel long distances to get to the dealer. I am really disappointed in Airstreams customer service policies.

As a retired automotive tech for honda ,when there was a recall on a car ,the dealer would have been shipped whatever parts were needed as soon or before the recall notices were sent out, airstream is hoping we all buy are own bolts and do the the recall our self , this would save the company lots of cash$$$$$ , but this could backfire on airstream is some propane bottle came loose and caused a accident. After all how long has airstream had propane bottles ! Get it together airstream!

Recalls never bother me much- I'm glad they are addressing the problem. That's better than the company that is in denial over a problem.

I got my letter today, and yes Moosetags, it was sent pre-sorted mail. But it also had big bold letters saying "IMPORTANT! SAFETY RECALL NOTICE" and a sticker that said "SAFETY RECALL INFORMATION" in white letters on a red background. I certainly noticed that before I noticed the pre-sort stamp.

I called our dealer after getting the letter yesterday. I wanted them mailed to me but they couldn't as per AS. Liability. Our dealer is a thousand miles away. None near me.
Will try to find some and do ourselves.
