I always enjoy seeing everyone else's upgrades so I thought I would share some of our upgrades to our Airstream.
We missed the medicine cabinet that was in our 19' Bambi so my beautiful wife built a medicine cabinet for the bathroom in the 23'. See attached picture.
She also found a paper towel holder at Bed Bath and Beyond that ratchets so the roll will not unroll on the road. Mounted under the cabinets with small bolts instead of screws so screws cannot strip out.
Added a quick coupler for lp on the a frame of the Airstream. We wanted to be able to hook up an outdoor burner and we converted our Weber grill to use off the lp tanks.
The fresh water tank developed a leak at one of the fittings so I had to drop the tank. When I had the tank down I put ball valves inside the trailer to eliminate the low water drain valves that were mounted on the bottom of the fresh water tank cover. Plumbed a half inch ball valve inside the cover to drain the tank instead of the small plastic valve on the outside. I didn't want anything on the outside. All valves can be accessed through the access hole in the closet. Can post pictures later.
Filiform corrosion was starting around the marker lights. Found out that our year was in the years when Airstream didn't use a gasket behind the light. Light trim strip rubbed into the aluminum coating. Started pulling off lights and found the lights had a plastic clip that broke each time pulled a light off. New lights have metal clips. All wire is under the skin of the trailer with caulk on the inside. No way to pull wire out and access connection. Decided not to try and dig out caulking and maybe lose the wire. Since tabs were breaking on the light and had to get new lights just broke the lense and pulled the wire out of the fixture leaving enough pigtail to solder on the new lights. With some modification to the new gasket I could coil the wire in the gasket. Cleaned the corrosion and covered with Nyalic. New gaskets new lights.
We have a small Cocker Spaniel that goes with us and there is very little room for a kennel in the camper so we decided to use the storage space under the door side dinette seating. Added some ventilation grates and fashioned a kennel door and that is now Bella's home at night. Considering naming the Airstream Bellaire since Bella has claimed it as hers. No way we could leave here without her. She just turned a year old.
Nice upgrades, thanks for the pictures. I'd like to put a paper towel holder in our 23' but there's a dish towel holder and an under cabinet light, not much room left. We keep a countertop holder in the pantry. Your wife did a nice job on the bath cabinet.
