Thank you for your comments. We try to make things in the Airstream work for us and our camping style. Most of what we do does not reflect on any problems created by the manufacturing process.

Most of the little things that we fix, we would rather do ourselves because we can do it better.

Things like the a/c vents that are not putting out we will leave to Jackson Center.

We are very experienced at making New Lucy work for us.

Now we are undertaking the television in Lucy's living room. When we took delivery of Lucy, we were surprised to find that the Samsung television mounted to the wall next to the refrigerator was not adjustable. It's mounted in a stationary position very close to the wall. This does not allow for plugging in any video cables or accessing anything on the back of the television.

To start with, it was difficult to figure out how to remove the television from the wall mount. Airstream had placed a little metal clip on the top of the television mount. I guess this was done to keep the television from popping out of the the mount while underway. I removed this clip and was able to get the television off of the mount. When I put the television back on the mount, I decided that the metal clip was unnecessary and left it off.

I was able to plug in my video cables at the back of the television while it was off the wall. When I tried to put the Television back in the mount, the cables would not clear the wall. This is an unacceptable situation as this is the way that we connect our streaming media player to the television to access our 4 terabyte hard drive on which we have stored 1,500 movies and 5,000 television episodes.

We have decided to replace the OEM television mount with an articulating arm television mount. I have ordered one that I think will work, and it should arrive later today.

It should be noted that the television in Lucy's bedroom comes mounted on an articulating arm. Sometimes I wonder what Airsstream is thinking when they make some of these decisions. In some areas it seems like they are going backwards.

All my additional feeds for the TV in the 25FB are in the the compartment where the Blue Ray is. I have four feeds that go into the TV's, including satellite, Apple, and my computer....

I considered connecting in that cabinet over the dinette. The thing that prevented me from doing that was that the streaming media player is controlled by a remote and has to be accessible.

The articulating TV mount that I ordered arrived a few minutes ago. There was a slight problem in that the box was empty. The outer box from Amazon was sealed, but the inner box had nothing in it???????? That's my luck! Amazon is sending it again. It should be here on Thursday.

Is it possible to use Apple TV without wifi (i.e. LAN only)? That would be very handy on the road.

Yes if your bare anything touches the bare aluminum it will wake you out of a SOUND sleep. In the winter, you might even fear sticking! (Think "Christmas Story" and the "triple dog dare" about touching the metal pole with your tongue.)

So a simple, semi permanent system to create an "upholstered wall" around a bed is as follows:

equipment needed: poster board, masking tape, scissors, command adhesive tabs, fabric glue.
take poster board - approximately 16 inches high and lay pieces against the wall overlapping slightly. This creates a backing for the fabric. Because the wall is curved the top edge will be ragged where the pieces join.
After you put the pieces together with masking tape, cut protruding pieces off the top edge to create a level appearance.
cover the front with fabric, lapping over the top, bottom and sides about 1.5 inches. Loosely attach the fabric on the back with masking tape, and put in place between the wall and the mattress. As you bend it around the corners you'll probably get some "slop" on the inside corner. Adjust the tape to eliminate, then use fabric glue to permanently attach the fabric and poster board.
be careful not to glue the fabric to the wall (use wax paper, etc. to keep the wall clean until the glue dries.
take the performance adhesive patches and install the fabric covered poster board to the wall. You only need the performance adhesive on the top edge - about a foot apart? The mattress will hold the bottom in.
When you get tired of the look, or it gets dirty - pull it off and do over with new materials.

You can make a real project of this and add piping or hot glue on a decorative ribbon trim, etc. And if you use quilted fabric you'll have some nice padding too. I did this in the first trailer, but have since just learned to stay away from that side of the bed. On twins I can imagine it would be really useful.

Moosetags, you have a rolling server! 4 terabytes! That seems so incredible to an old guy like me that remembers floppy discs! I could never decide what to watch with a library that big.

Well, here you go again making an improvement to a clumsy Airstream application. Chances are they had a reason. The wall mount needs to be "earthquake" proof to survive our bouncy highways.

Four terabytes is just the beginning. My movie and tv show library takes up
2.75 TB. I've already have a 5 TB unit on the radrar.

The television as it came in Lucy just doesn't work for our uses. Most of what we are doing to Lucy is just personalization.

Now I have to ask.....how in the world were you able to assemble such a huge video collection? I f you had to purchase all that it would have to have cost as much as a new Airstream.

An old friend in South Florida originally loaded a 3TB drive for me. Then, the third son bought the 4TB drive for me loaded with all of his movies. I dumped the original 3 TBA drive data to the new drive and I still have another terabyte of capacity left on the 4TB drive.

Maybe you could be Air Forums movie critic and make recommendations to us old fogies since 9 out of 10 movies I pick aren't worth a plug nickel. That's an incredible library of entertainment you have at your fingertips. Maybe you can set up New Lucy with some additional seating and invite us all over for a movie and popcorn!

Drobo makes a small portable four 2.5" drive enclosure that can hold close to 4TB as a raid over Thunderbolt in the mac arena. Or, with today's equipment, around 2 TB of four solid state drives that are extremely vibration and drop resistent..

Hi David,

I am also one of the old fogies. As for movies, I am also disappointed by most that I have seen in recent years. It may have something to do with my attention span is down to about an hour. I am much better with TV episodes.

On the 4TB drive, we mostly watch old Star Trek television episodes. We have the complete library for the Original, TNG, DS9, Voyager, and Enterprise. What more could one ask for. Life is good. At my age, by the time I watch them all, I'm ready to start over without ever having seen them before.

Would that be the 3 1/2" floppies or the earlier 5 1/4" or 8" ones? You must be a youngster! In the early 70s the first generation personal computers (which you had to build yourself) had to use cassette tapes for data storage. Later, my original Apple II needed a cassette drive for data storage. Then I got a 5 1/4" drive, which was then a big deal.

I was thinking if I could have a drive with videos and movies, I'd love to have ALL the various Star Trek shows. Man am I envious!

I do have all the movies on DVDs though. But the majority of my episode collection was on VHS tapes.

I wish that I was a youngster. I worked with cassette data which was state of the art compared to IBM key punch cards. Now I have a 64 GB micro SD card in my smart phone that has more data storage and computing capacity that the Apollo 11 Lunar Landing Module. These are wonderful times that we live in.

I got Lucy's new television mount this morning and have installed it. It seems to work very well and gives me access to the back of the television. I also like being able to turn the television slightly toward the door. The television now sits about 2" further out from the wall, but that does not present a problem.
