David, when we upgraded to the 16" I kept the original 15" spare tire, but I still am really close to leaving it at home. I like to travel as light as possible, and this spare adds to hitch weight, a need for more weight distribution and a more rigid hitch connection, and takes some payload. Every little bit adds up.

But like Brian we travel widely and often remotely so it's still there, but just barely.

Back to the piano bench lid support....our '10 FB medicine cabinet came with one so I didn't think any more about. Today my wife was reading this thread and asked me to buy one for the above-frig cabinet. Done.

Our 2005 25FB also came with the medicine chest door prop. Why Airstream would do away with it is beyond me. I guess it was to raise the profit level. Doing away with a very helpful $5 accessory doesn't seem like the right way to increase the profit margin.

I thought about keeping the 15" spare, but decided that for the extra $330, I would spring for a fifth Sendel wheel and 16" tire. If I ever have to use it, it will be good for extensive highway travel and the wheel will not rust away up under the Airstream.

We got the 12 volt fan installed in the bedroom after wiring in a 12 volt cigarette lighter outlet using a converter from 110 volt. I am still puzzled why Airstream dropped all of the 12volt outlets.

Here's a photo pf the fan. We have attached it using a 90 degree bent piece of Lexan.

Not a big deal but the prongs on the spare tire holder will have to be bent out a bit to accommodate the 16" tire/wheel.

They must have made the spare tire carrier smaller than it used to be. When I made the switch to 16" tires and wheels on the 2005 25FB, the new tire and wheel fit right in the OEM carrier. I guess that I'll just do what is necessary to make it fit.

When I had my 2011 done at the factory several years ago they had to bend mine out a bit. Maybe it just depends on the holder.

We purchased our FC Twin in Feb 2014 and notice the same thing. Has there been a recall or a factory fix for this uncomfortable condition. Also had problems with table leg and draw hardware. This my forth trailer after two motor homes thought they AS could do better

Hi Chuck. Welcome to the Forums. We're glad to have you with us. This is our third Airstream, and actually the fit and finish seems to be getting better. There are always little things that need adjustment.

I have already resolved the tilting bed issue myself with a little effort at no cost. Jackson Center would fix it for you but God knows what they would come up with. They might suspend it from the ceiling with chains (only kidding). You'll find my fix for this earlier in this thread.

Has anyone added some kind of fabric panel to the walls adjacent to the twin beds? Our 84 Sovereign had upholstered panels about 12 inches tall that snapped to the walls around the twins. Rolling over at night and touching that cold aluminum wall can really wake you up.

Maybe that's why the tilt the bed towards the center.....

I bent the brackets to put the 15" Michelin spare under the 25FB as it was slightly (0.6") larger in diameter.

When I put the 16" spare under the Classic, I got on the ground and really wooled the tire around and it fit without bending the brackets.

I took an hour's nap this afternoon out in Lucy to try out my bed fix. It worked! I no longer feel that I have to keep myself from rolling out on to the floor.

Hi Chuck. No Problem. Here are a couple of pictures that I just took of the underside of one of our twin beds with the mattress propped-up.

The flooring material that I used is the interlocking rubber flooring that I got at Sam's Club. This flooring is 1/2" thick. I cut 3" wide pieces of the flooring and placed them between the top of the underbed cabinet and the bottom of the bed board. To do this, I removed the screws at the outer edge and center of the bed board. This gave me enough flexibility to lift the board slightly and insert the rubber flooring strips. The OEM screws for the edge were no longer long enough. I replaced them with similar sheet metal screws about 1/2" longer.

This fix took very little time and almost no cost.

You will notice that I have this flooring material on the entire top of the bed board. This is something that I have done on my two prior Airstreams. We have found that it insulates the underside of the mattress and provides a bit of extra cushioning. It also makes the mattress easier to maneuver when making the bed.

Another improvement completed on New Lucy. You're making your Airstream more comfortable and set up exactly the way you like to travel and rest. Some just complain, but it seems you find a solution that eliminates the problem.

Keep us posted on other improvements you make, as well as, heaven forbid, and quality issues that might become apparent.
