Here is New Lucy's winterizing replacement pipe with the end fittings. The filter came with fittings that allow it to fit into the water line.

We are now back to making New Lucy our own. Today I installed the Moose Head cabinet knobs that were in Old Lucy.

Yesterday, while getting New Lucy packed up for a trip later this week, I noticed some of the dreaded filiform corrosion on her aluminum grab handle next to the door. As new as she is, this was disappointing. I thought that Airstream was doing better in the department with some better coatings.

This is another item on my punch list for when Lucy goes to Jackson Center in the spring.

Santa Rosa Beach is surrounded by salt water. I guess washing more frequently is required plus waxing to prevent this?

Thumbs down Poor clear coat...

Brian,

That polished out very well on our Classic.

Try a medium compound with a green 'scotch pad' and then a good metal polish.(Flitz)

It's an aftermarket coating, very much like what was on the battery door frame.
A bit different than the corrosion Alcoa supplies with their sheet aluminum.

Considerably more involved here, but you get the idea......

Brian, we just detailed our 1 1/2 year old FJ Cruiser and there was the same corrosion on the Toyota plate and other such plates on the rear door. I thought Toyota would do better than Airstream. Not true.

It's got to be climate. My trailer is 6 years old with no corrosion. It's only ever been in the Rocky Mountain and desert southwest states

Unfortunately, poor Lucy sits out in our alley about 150 feet from the ocean. I'm just going to have to keep a close eye on her.

The price of living in paradise

If Robert's suggestion works then keep those areas waxed up. How about your tail light housings?

Airstreams sitting 150 feet from the ocean in a humid climate are going to need a diligent Corrosion Prevention and Repair Plan, or it will corrode extensively. There's too much exposed or lightly protected metal for occasional washing and waxing to do much if anything.

We had a good discussion on products and methods here in recent months:

New Lucy's tail light housings are still perfect, but I'm keeping a close eye on them as Old Lucy suffered some pretty bad corrosion in that area.

I've enjoyed reading the various posts and have much more understanding of a 25' FC FB. Thanks!

We are seriously considering purchasing a FB in the 25' length. We have seen the RB but have not been in a FB. One thing I was not aware of (nor were told by the salesman) is the FB does not have a microwave. Am I correct about that? And I have been looking at the floor plan and see some difference in the toilet layout but it's difficult to grasp.

So we will have to look at the FB and RB side by side.

Could a small microwave be put in a FB?

A 25FB does not come with a microwave unless it has the convection microwave option. New Lucy has this option. Old Lucy, our 2005 25FB, did not come with a microwave, but we had one that we used on top of the range burner cover, and later in a cabinet that we built under the television.

Dear Hans,
We have a rear twin 25 foot flying cloud. It has a microwave above the refrig and and propane oven near the sink as usual. I must say I love the rear bedroom. Visitors walk just to the front end to visit and somehow the bedroom feels tucked away Which I love. I also feel the bathroom has more counter space. There is nothing like seeing them at the dealer. That really makes the difference. We love our airsstream.
Hello to Brian and SuEllyn! We are off to Klamath Falls soon to a Winter Bird event.

The 25fb bathroom is smaller than the 25rb. We have a Classic 25fb and when the door is shut trying to get off the throne and dress is cramped. I'm 5'10" average build but a little over weight. Anyone larger than me I would think would have a harder time maneuvering. The 25rb gives you more legroom and standing space. But this is at a loss of length for the side couch in the living area.

Our Classic 25fb has a microwave hanging down from the upper cabinets over the sink, located next to the pantry wall, which is not offered anymore. If my microwave fails on us I doubt we'd be able to find a replacement and would have to buy a small counter top but then I would have to find somewhere to store it to easily pull out for use. there wouldn't be enough counter space to keep it out all the time. We carry a small toaster oven for baking small batches of cookies.

My wife loves the rear dinette/side couch of our 25fb but I think if I was able to purchase new the 25RB twin with optional microwave/convection oven with the gas stove and the larger bath would be my choice. I could then get rid of my toaster oven too.

One thing also to consider is the shower floor pan in these two plans. The 25fb shower floor has the wheel well that extends into the shower floor area part way while the wheel well in the 25RB extends across the whole shower floor. Stand in the shower on both plans to see which one works for you.

Kelvin
