What is wrong with these running lights?

2015 27ft International. What is wrong with these running lights? All 4 corners are like this. What was Airstream thinking?

Our 2913 looks just like that. All Canadian A/S trailers looked like that up until a few years ago with the lower guards and running lights arranged as in your pic.
I am guessing it was some Canadian antiquated DOT Federal law that had that forced Airstream to comply. It sure made no sense to me either .

A side bar; you know that government bureaucrats do not need to justify what they do, they just are.

The owners ARE from Canada. Wondering when the law changed. This is a 2015 model.

Our Canadian 2017 only has one running light, just behind the rock guard (like the lower one in your photo) although the rock guard is much taller. There is a yellow reflector on the bottom of the rock guard.

Our trailer is the one on the left. You can see an older trailer with the light arrangement like you describe on the right.

The rock guard appears to obscure the light behind it making it invisible to oncoming traffic. Maybe that is why?

The one on the front corner roof panel also has a running light that is visible to oncoming traffic.

These are "side marker lamps" made to be visible from the side. No need to see them from the front as that's where your tow vehicle shows up!
