I use to travel with them open, but depending on wind direction, I had a load of dust enter while travelling on a gravel road once. It was a mess, so I never travel with them open anymore. Hot air can be quickly expelled upon arrival with one fan pulling air in (reversed fan operation) and one pushing air out.

Dennis, you should visit coastal South Carolina during the summer (April to November) and the reasoning will become clear. The aluminum tube gets hot in the sun but the air is so moist that it makes a greenhouse in there. And it melts our chocolate for s'mores!

Hadn't thought about the exhaust vents in the bathroom and shower too. Those should be entirely resistant to wind issues and less of a problem with rain.

I have had the bathroom vent leak water into the trailer on the road so I close them now. They are not shrouded in a way to prevent water intrusion. BTW they'll also let some in when parked and there's a blowing rain.

I have 2 Fantastic Fans in my Safari. Couple years ago I left one of them open while traveling along the Outer Banks of NC. Somewhere along NC12 it broke and flew away. It was the rear vent over the bed. That night we got to view the stars, and for the next few days. Then it rained on our last night on the road. The fan on high speed kept the rain out. Fantastic sent new vent covers for each of my fans.
After this experience, I purchased one Fantastic vent cover and installed it on the front fan. During the hot part of summer, if I'm on paved roads, I leave the front vent open with the fan on and the bath vent open while traveling. Winter I close everything.

We did try traveling with the vents open , but we kept being flagged down by well meaning people "hey, your vents are open!!!"
So until I get a cover, they are staying closed. If it is dry I leave the toilet vent open...

I made the mistake of leaving the round bathroom vent open during a thunder storm. Came back to find a good bit of water on the floor. Thankfully I had a towel down and it cought most of the water. Lesson learned, I will never leave that vent open when leaving the trailer or on the road.
