Are these tires too big??? help....

So hubby and I could barely get our Airstream up our driveway due to a slight incline in the road. We decided that if our Airstream had bigger tires put on that it may give us a few extra inches. They were installed this morning at our local Les Schawb.

We are wondering if anyone has upgraded their AS tires to the ones we have on now, which are: 235 x 80 on a 16" rim

Would love to hear your thoughts. Airstream recommends 225 x 75 and ours are little bigger than that.

Would love to hear any thoughts out there as once we drive off the lot with these new tires they are ours and we will be out $$$.

That's larger than is usually recommended here -- 225/75-16 is usually considered the maximum.

There is a possibility that the tires will hit the inside of the fender well when the suspension bottoms out, causing damage.

Took some photos over my lunch hour of my Airstream and the 235/80-16r tires on her.

Here is a link to my photos on Flickr that show these new tires on our Airstream. Airstream Tires - a set on Flickr

There is 4" of clearance above each tire in the wheel well and about 2+ inches of clearance on the sides of the tires that are closet to the wheel well. There is one tire that is closer to the wheel well on it's side. The metal lining/trim along that wheel well would need to be shaved off or adjusted for it to match the rest of the tires.

From the looks of the photos do these tires still sound too big?

Thank you so much.

Our new tires fit our Airstream like a glove. Yes they are bigger than what AS recommends; however, after speaking with several tire and towing specialists the general consensus was that they would be fine. Today she sits at home in our driveway and cleared the driveway like a piece of cake with plenty of clearance left.
