We are very lucky to have great dealers here in Mississippi. We have a great Airstream dealership here- Foley in Gulfport. Y'all know I am a hard core Toyota fan(atic)- dyed in the wool, true blue, bleed Toyota-
We have several crappy Toyota dealerships and several excellent Toyota dealerships. I will say Kirk Toyota, Bullock Toyota, and Carl Hogan Toyota are all top shelf, especially Kirk- they really rolled out the red carpet for us. We just brought home a 2014 Avalon. Kirk made this the most pleasurable car buying experience I have ever had. I would absolutely recommend Kirk to anyone. Bullock and Kirk both have excellent service departments. I am absolutely pleased with both service departments-
If any of you are ever in the market for a Toyota in Mississippi or are traveling through in a Toyota and need service-

THOR has no unions. From the latest annual report.

Employee Relations At July 31, 2014, we employed approximately 9,400 full-time employees in the United States, of which approximately 1,070 were salaried. None of our employees are represented by certified labor organizations. We believe that we maintain a good working relationship with our employees.

Hi Moflash,

I searched the UAW website to no avail. Where did you find the reference to Thor/Airstream?

Maybe some components are union made. Maybe the Interstate chassis from MB? They have works councils in Germany, somewhat like a union. But the SEC filings by Thor are likely to be more accurate.

That site is the Int'l. Assn. of Fire Fighters, not the UAW. The UAW site has no mention of Airstream or Thor. My guess is that Airstream/Thor is not a union shop.

If Airstream was union I bet they would cost twice as much and quality would certainly be no better.

I'd take that bet. I believe they would have better, more consistent, more satisfied and healthier workers overall.

Stockholders and top executives are where the money goes these days. Jobs aren't being created in this country because these folks love America, they are being created because they can get American workers to work for peanuts.

And Ferrari's still catch on fire. You'd think for 200K they'd fix the wiring. But nope. 9 out of 10 burn to the ground while parked.

With 150 new employees, I would wait out a year--too many quality issues at that price point.

Not true,I do not know where you came up with that? Lol

A hand full of first Ferrari 458's in the world had a problem with a plastic shield that was too close to the exhaust and that was a issue. Ferrari addressed this problem by replacing the few cars that burnt free of charge to the owners and upgrading the rest for free.Everyone makes a mistake now and then,Lol.
Wiring on contemporary Ferrari's is bulletproof.

Perhaps some of us can remember the "Prince of Darkness" or also known as Lucas, electronics installed on most British cars in the 60s and 70s. Those were the days for wiring challenges!

All that being said, you pay a hundred thousand dollars for a camper, that camper should be perfect in every way. I would expect these TT to have top notch QC all the way down the line...no exceptions. Not to mention not built as fast as they can. Take the time to be that American craftsman. The problem is the big man wants quantity at the expense of quality. I would rather wait a few more weeks knowing we get the best quality they can deliver.

Boys, the reason A/S survives is that they were able to contain and lower unit costs. Were these trailers still priced at the 1960-1980 norm of the average American house you'd be paying far more than you are. Even adjusted for the changed factors since that era the price and quality are not that far apart given the nature of problems described.

Quality control on the Serenity for 2015

I have just had a tour of the new Classic. This is unquestionably a unit with very high quality control applied during construction.

How ever, as I review my Serenity, now over six months old, but only about 3500 miles of towing, I would state the issues of quality control to date have demonstrated that in an overall perspective, this has been put together very well. There are very clearly areas which for a perfectionist offer us an opportunity to be negative. And, a few little issues which I have corrected by personalizing the unit for my preferences.

The ultimate question is one of owner satisfaction. And, I am very satisfied with my Airstream, and see no other alternative RV which I would replace it with. I have the luxury which approaches that of a moho costing four times as much, can put it into places the moho could never go, and the operational cost overall is less than half of the moho (figuring the total cost of truck and trailer).

I am of the suspicion that while some issues of production could be improved, that JC is listening to us and we might see even better QC on future units.

If the Classic had been available when I ordered mine, well, mmmmm.....
