Well I traveled out State route 58 instead of I-64 from Virginia Beach. Fairly uneventful, except the new wheels and tires meant I needed to mess with the hitch setup. Didn't get it dialed in right so in 99 degree heat I fixed it in a vacant building's parking lot. Nice law officer came up to kanoodle just as I was finishing up. (smelled like a goat and was dripping with sweat down to my ankles, wouldn't you know.)
Got him convinced that I knew what I was doing when I retorqued my lug bolts (after 124 miles, not 50) so he went away. Never has one woman been SO grateful for a gallon or two of tepid water to shower in. Fresh clothes and "on the road again".
Meant to stay at the Virginia Highland Haven, but ran out of daylight due to the readjustments, etc. Saw the Meadows of Dan and knew there was a small campground there... so pulled in and went face first into the mattress after hooking up water and electric. Havent been out on the road for a while, first day was tiring.
The mountain air with the Laurels in bloom was really intoxicating and the night cool enough that the fantastic fans were enough. Saw several bluebirds the next morning - nice to see them making a comeback. Dawdled and didn't get started until almost 10 am.
Thus ended the first day of the trip.
