Smile TAC September Magazine

This is the "official" discussion thread for the September 2010 edition of The Airstreamer's Club Magazine, which will be released in the next few days Keeping the discussion here will help keep the rest of the forums tidy.

We are in transition from an idea to a fully formed club, and the mag is also in transition. You'll see a fancy new layout and a different kind of content. More... magaziney! Photos! Color! Weird lines! Page numbers!

There will be some new threads starting in the next few days that relate to articles in the magazine. Please try to keep those conversations in their threads so we stay focused.

Also, these are TAC discussions, and they are not a place to make political points about any other club. We'd like to make TAC the club you'd want it to be, not to discuss anything already existing. No slanging matches please! Thanks!

I want feedback and comments and letters!

Really sounds exciting.....I agree that we all should stay focused on what the TAC is all about and build on the "FUN" times and Rally s that the membership can enjoy together.
I have met many TAC members since I joined and have enjoyed the times we spent camping and sharing ideas and fellowship. Looking ahead for more "Streaming" with our members.

This is a great thing for the club. I can not wait to see it. Now we just need to get the ball rolling on bashes around the country so we can have a bunch of photos and articles for you. I will submit some articles non bash related and see what you think.

One of the things I am working hard on is improving information about future events: dates, locations, contact details, maps... I plan to make that one of the main features of the magazine in the coming months.

Another thing is that TAC has a lot of members with different ideas and it would be good to represent EVERYONE. We're wondering if a letters page would work, but with the power of forums it seems a bit old school - everyone who is a member of TAC seems to be on Airforums too.

OH TAC Rally in the early planning stages

We aren't quite ready yet to put something together for the newsletter, but there is a TAC-OH Rally being planned for next spring by us (WineStream) and H2K.

The target date is mid-May right now. The venue will be the Wayne Co. Fairgrounds in Wooster, OH. The fairgrounds hosts many camping groups throughout the year. Many of those are repeat visitors year after year. Included with using the fairgrounds is a building with electric, hot & cold water, restrooms, and heat. We can even have a fire there! There's also a shower house / restroom building that will be open all the time for those that are aluma-tenting or otherwise don't have a shower or toilet in their camper. Best of all, $12 per night includes use of all this plus water & elec. for the camper and there's a dump station on site. There will be a small rally fee on top of the daily charge in order to cover the costs of the food being provided. This is still TBD.

If the newsletter can hold for one more week, I think we can have something put together for publication. A thread and calendar entry will appear here on Airforums as soon as the date is set in stone.

The mag is monthly so you'll get regular mentions every month until the event. Plenty of time!

It's done! I just need to confirm one contributor's name and TAC number, and have it proof-read by someone else's eyes.

One of the things TAC wants to do is have articles link directly to discussions here on Airforums. Right before I make the final copy of the magazine, I'll create the discussions, and cut and past the links into the articles. I just need to get with a mod to make sure I'm putting the conversations in the right places - wouldn't do to have a post be moved then have the link go dead in a few weeks.

So I'll be doing that tomorrow, and then it'll go live right after that.

An Archive Idea

Dave,

Thank you for taking on the TAC Newsletter. It's clear your heart is in it and in the spirit of TAC. That's appreciated by many more than you'll likely ever know.

I had a thought. But, of course, a thought without action, is just a dream. Likewise, action without thought is usually wasted effort. So, here's the thought; what if we created a thread or link, or whatever it's called, where TAC members could archive their Airstreams. Name or forum name of the member, TAC number (if you're so inclined), any Airstream details, (year, model, what you've done to it or with it) and 4 photos (at least one inside and one outside - include your pet, if you want). If you do an upgrade or add a new Airstream (or pet) to your collection, add a post (and maybe reference your original post). The idea is to create a kind of electronic archive of the Airstreams of TAC.

Now the action. If you let me know how to make it so it does all the linkage stuff, I'd be glad to start the thread. (I'm not an expert, but, I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express one time, and actually started one thread. I was kind of forced into it, but it wasn't at all painful.)

Thanks again for your engagement and ownership of the TAC Newsletter,

Roy

That's a good idea, and I think it would be helpful to most people. I think it's something that's best done by a website or forum first - like... AIRFORUMS!

I haven't slept in a couple of days, but I'd like to think on this some more and share it around after some sleep and see what we can get going in the way of a photographic "member's directory" that includes us and our Airstreams.

Maybe it's something for a separate website, if someone wants to do that?

I did a photo directory of each couple by their Airstream for all the attendees at the Iowa First TAC Rally. Each attendee now has a copy. It's a nice reminder of all the new friends we made

Aaaaand here it is...

TAC September 2010 magazine

This is a half-way magazine - it's laid out nicely, but I want some feedback on it to make next month's mag even better

This is a temporary link - the mag'll be posted on the TAC website in the next day or so.

I went for "ok" quality photos and about a 557 kb file size - better quality photos make a 1.4 MB file and I don't know how big is acceptable since people have different speed connections. Do you think I should do two versions? Smaller for people on dialup or slow wifi, and a better version for people with broadband?

Enjoy!
