So, the ONLY real presentation is the wood...mesquite is the only REAL BBQ medium...I import the stuff to Colorado every year...couldn't call it BBQ without it...ok, gauntlet thrown...m

Well, MIke, if you can't get any hickory then I guess any old scrub brush will do.

It was a cool and quiet evening...
Dave sat back and enjoyed his three great loves: a smokeless small fire, a Red Stripe, and fellow 'streamers shooting the breeze about BBQ..

One of the nice things about the mesquite is that you can't kill it...just use it as a renewable resource...hickory brings to mind Andrew Jackson, caning sticks, and my old vice-principal's attitude adjuster...OUCH!!! Naw, mesquite is the ONLY wood for BBQ, unless yer from one of those foreign countries, like KC...it also makes some really pretty furniture and flooring...housefire???bring a brisket

Well for variations, try orange tree chips, apple, grape vines, button wood, all have a unique flavor, use a little too much mesquite,or hickory and it can just be over flavored, and over power the meat flavor.Try something different, you might like it. Dave
