Yes, the BRN goes with you not the Airstream. If you buy a used Airstream that has BRN on it, that number does not automatically register to you if you join the WBCCI. You can request the number, but it may still be in use, or got assigned to someone else already.
We requested my parents BRN when we joined the Club. Since it had not been assigned, and my parents were deceased, we got it. I'd like to think they'd be pleased.
If you buy a trailer with BRN on it, be aware they are difficult to remove without "ghosting". Some people request a number with the BRN that's there as part of the new one so they don't have to remove the old one.
