This 1959 World Traveler, serial number I229114, did not sell the first time it was on eBay and it has since been relisted:
1959 Airstream World Traveler 22' | eBay

With there being only about 10 World Travelers known to have been produced in total over the 1957 to 1960 time frame, this definitely is a rare Airstream. It is unfortunate that it was gutted and the original interior apparently discarded.

Since World Travelers were designed for rugged travel, I have been asked if this particular World Traveler may have participated on the 1959-60 Cape Town to Cairo Caravan. My answer is that based upon exterior details it does not appear to match any Airstream that participated on that caravan, although at least two other World Travelers did participate on the African Caravan: Wally's Gold 1957 World Traveler, and a 1959 World Traveler bearing the WBCCI number 2397 that is currently on the roof of the Grand Daddy hotel in Cape Town, South Africa.

If we could find out the "big red" WBCCI numbers that was originally on this World Traveller, we might be able to find out a little more about its early travels. From the photos in the eBay auction, there are no signs of ghosted WBCCI numbers, but being that almost all new Airstreams joined the club back then, I will bet there are some ghosted numbers on the trailer, although they may be very faded and might only be able to be seen from just the right angle.
