This is too funny. I just took my door apart and found Johnny's exact script from 2/4/1959. We should really start a chapter of Johnny door Airstreams.

Gilbert,
Not sure if you need the whole assy...or just the cylinder and key, but the latter is listed on ebay out here in Valley Springs, CA.

I wonder if Don (can't recall his last name) in Jackson Center would remember him? Don is the guy that gives all the tours, and has been there over 50 years, which would put him starting around what, '62?

You never know...

Johnny was in California. Don was in Ohio. I doubt they knew each other. When I was there in 09 a older fella came by from the factory. He walked over to my 62 and said, "I bucked your trailer. It was his first year at the factory fresh out of school."

Add another member to this exclusive club. I am rebuilding a 59 Tradewind, and found Johnny's name in the door. When I googled it I came to this thread! It was dated 11-4-1958. About three weeks before I was born!

Even though we own a 2014 model, I'm very intrigued by this story.
I'm staying tuned in...

I read this earlier this morning. I was so intrigued I thought I would try to find this Johnny Alonzo!

Another of my hobbies is doing research for ancestors of friends and family. I've been doing this for more than 30 years. So, I did my thing and have some information to share.

I have no absolute proof this is the correct person , but he is the only person I could find that fit. He is the correct age and lived in the correct place at the correct time.

I first searched in Los Angeles County in the area of the Airstream Factory for Johnny/John/Juan Alonzo for the time during 1950's and 1960's. I found Johnny (also listed as John E) in public records. Telephone directories during that time showed he lived in Pico Rivera, Los Angeles County, CA. His address was a few miles north, within walking distance, of the Norwalk, Los Angeles Airstream Factory. He moved a few times but consistently lived in Los Angeles County after he arrived.

He was born about 1935.
He is listed in the 1940 US Census in Dallas, TX with his parents.
His name is in public school records in Dallas.
His photo/name is in his high school annual in Dallas. (copy righted photo)
There is a record of his death in Los Angeles County in 2001, but I did not find his burial location.

Another person I found was another Johnny Alonzo. He was in a school annual of a school only a few miles from the other Johnny Alonzo's address at Abraham Lincoln School in L A County. Maybe a son? Hopefully, one day he might login and find this discussion to say whether or not this assumption I have made is correct or not.

Now I'm even more curious.

We visited Jackson Center last December and viewed our AS being built. I asked the gentleman installing the cabinets to sign the wall somewhere behind them, but he said he could not. Said management had chastised workers in the past for doing this, and currently it's prohibited. Pity.

Great research Alan. I have also done a lot of census searches, and it is amazing how one can patch things together.

Well done!
