Hi Lisa,
Your inquiry is very different from the original one that you posted under. It really should be its own AirForums message thread.
The Airstreams used on the 1963-64 Around the World Caravan (ATWC) are well researched. Twelve (12) of the forty-five (45) Airstream trailers that started the ATWC are known to still exist and two (2) are confirmed to have been destroyed. A new one seems to be rediscovered every few years, so there is hope that more will turn up soon. I own and have restored one of the 12 that is currently known to still exist and am in contact with the owners of the other 11. I too would love to find your grandparents ATWC Airstream, because it was the only one from my home state of Michigan, but unfortunately, it is not one of the ones currently known to still exist. I can provide the year, model, and serial number of your grandparents trailer and even several photos of it on the ATWC, but I do not want to post that information on this thread.
I have written extensively about the ATWC, most recently a six-part series for it's 60th anniversary that ran in the November 2023 thru February 2025 issues of the Wally Byam Caravan Club International (WBCCI) Blue Beret magazine that is available to club members. I have also given presentations about the ATWC at several club Rallies over the years and even co-hosted a mini 60th Anniversary Around the World Caravan last year for the Vintage Airstream Club last year that had 5 Airstreams and 3 people from the original 1963-64 ATWC participate.
I would suggest contacting me at my Airstream Club Historian email
history@airstreamclub.org. I have much information I can share and would love to learn if you have photos or other information you can share with me. That would best be done via email. I look forward to hearing from you.
