Pikes Peak 1960
I attended the 3rd. International Rally with my parents at Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1960.
I remember Wally having a gold Thunderbird towing a Bambi at that Rally, and they towed it up Pikes Peak as a publicity stunt.
Is my memory correct?
Does anyone have a picture of this?
PeeWee can you offer any insight?

Mike,
The Colorado Springs Rally was my first International Rally. I do remember the Pike's Peak Expedition. I thought I had a press release telling of the feat, or an old Caravanner. I couldn't find any information about the trailblazing road to the top.
Wally and Stel made their appearance at the rally, I am not sure that they had a trailer. Wally was getting over the long African Caravan, and he was experiencing the onset of his fatal illness.
However, Wally was on his game in speaking with the attendees of the Rally.
I returned home in May. My Mother, Helen, and I left our home in Bakersifeld with her #2 Airstream in June for Colorado Springs I spoke one evening and showed my slides from Africa.

PeeWee, thanks for the reply.
I thought I remembered this Thunderbird / Bambi drive up Pike's Peak, but I was about 12 and that was 58 years ago.
I, also, "think" they had a race driver actually drive the car.
We drove up Pike's Peak (without the AS) and I remember it to be a twisty one lane gravel road with no guard rails.
I remember seeing Wally and your Mother several times in my early Airstream years, but unfortunately, I only have about 6 pictures that Wally is actually visible.
There was also an attractive young female "activity director" that was at several of the early events. My Dad must have found her attractive because he took several pictures of her. Do you remember her name?

If you have a picture of her I can be specific, I believe it is Betty Taylor from KoKoMo, IN.

Betty Taylor IS the name. She was very upbeat and energetic.
Is she still alive, and if so, do you know where she currently resides?
Thanks,
Mike

Mike,
I really don't know. Her husband was William (Bill) Taylor and they lived in Indiana.
Betty was one of the great ladies on my Mother's team.
I will discuss the 1957 Eastern Canadian Caravan when I have time (on the SNU site), but many of the great WBCCI, and Caravan personages traveled on that Caravan.
My Mother and I always felt it was the best Caravan that we had been on. It had the perfect group of people. Great sights in Eastern Canada, and the greatest c amaraderie of Airstreamers. Just a dog gone great trip.

1963 Bon Voyage Party for the Around the World on Bord
Betty attended the see-ya-off party aboard the Cleveland. My Mother did sail with group, but didn't go on the trip.
One pic has Betty Taylor with a cup having a beverage, and the other she is LOL, really laughing out loud.
