There are other marks on the trailer besides just the big red numbers that are the same in the vintage photos of your grandparents trailer. Definitely the same Airstream!

Wow. It’s wonderful to see the Spaceliner in her younger years. Thanks so much for sharing!!!
Your grandparents appeared to be having a great time - and we specially love the photo at the Rally.
Do you recall if your grandparents were the first owners of this Spaceliner and what they named her?

Pics please! KatLizKirb, sounds like you really scored! Let's see it!
I love to see the original interiors intact. Mine was so rotted out inside.

Back in those days, folks towed with a station wagon and didn't obsess about payload or hitches.

1961 Spaceliner
I recently purchased spaceliner serial number 22TDSS0487 (9-60) it came from the original owners family. I was able to get all the paperwork including the Airstream registration certificate and the owners manuals.

Your 1961 Spaceliner was ordered on 9-12-1960 by a dealer named Travelon. The 9-60 build date stamped into the serial number tag means it was built soon after order, much shorter than the 1 year plus lead times Airstream currently has.

Stocktonmike, she is gorgeous!
Shrink/crop the photos just ever so slightly and they will orient themselves correctly (most of the time).

This is according to articles in the Winter 2012 and Fall 2013 issues of Airstream Life magazine and is based upon Airstream production records.
A previously unpublished fact it that one 1961 Spaceliner even participated on the 1963-64 Airstream Around the World Caravan. It would be great if someone found that one.

I’m new here and joined to ID my airstream. Thanks to this forum, it appears that I have a Spaceliner. The vin is 22TDSS0504. There have been no modifications that I can see except an a/c installation. What can you tell me about it? Thank you

Well, first of all, I can tell you that my prior comment was incorrect. According to Airstream production records, there were 98 Spaceliners built in 1961, for 100 total, including the two built in the 1960 model year. I can tell you that 22TDSS0504 was built fairly late in the series as it was the 71st 1961 Spaceliner built. It was ordered on 10-4-1960 for a dealer named "Lamkin & Harlowe" and likely built soon thereafter. The serial number plaque may have the actual built month and year stamped into is as "1060" for October 1960 or "1160" for November 1960, etc. I cannot find any information as to where "Lamkin & Harlowe" was located. That is about all I can tell you. Hope it helps.
P.S. I have a friend that is specifically looking for an original, unmodified Spaceliner, so contact me if you ever want to sell it.
