Identifying my new Airstream

Hi -
I was reading how you decipher the serial number on the trailers. I just bought a trailer that the seller says it is a 1959, but doesn't know what model. The serial number doesn't read like your explanation. Can you help me figure out what I've gotten. It does have a double bed on the Left side - bathroom across the back - lots of closets on the right. Pink double sink and 3 burner stove. Banquette makes into bed.

Serial Number 22DS-0363

The trailer has the Santa Fe Springs address on it plus 3 60

Appreciate if you could help me. Best, Sissy

Identifying my new Airstream

I'm trying to figure out how to attach a photo - the form only asks for video. I thought the serial number would identify. Here are a couple of photos. Hope I'm doing this correctly. Click image for larger version

I think it's either a Flying Cloud or a Safari.
And I believe the 3 60 indicates that it was built in March of 1960.

And it looks beautiful . . .

I think it is a '63. 22' double bed, "S????, built in March of '63. A '60 would have a L-77 door lock assembly.

looks to me like there's a patch where the L-77 was.

1960 - Yup. The '63's have a different door eyebrow and hinge arrangement (in general)

serial numbers

Heya Sissy,
Try this link, it is the airstream website and lists the form of each serial number per year. This is how I figured out mine was a '62, not a '68 as the ownership stated. Had the ownership changed and all is good. Welcome to our disease.

serial #

Hi Sissy,
I would say you have a 1960 Flying Cloud with double and single gauchos, production line #363 of that year. 22 (length) DS (gauchos) 0(1960) and 363 (#). The 1959 serial #'s look quite different.

1960 FC Pic

Hi again,
Found a '60 pic and the door really looks similar. Apparently the FC's and the Safaris shared serial # layouts and were verrrrry similar.

Dear All,
Thanks so much for all your feedback. The title says 1959, but I'm thinking you are right in thinking its a 1960 - I guess that can happen with titles? Thank you so much for chiming in - as I get more used to the trailer and take more pictures - I'll post them. She is beautiful and just right for me to get around in - can't wait to get started using her - I'm having an a/c and an awning made and will eventually get that front window cover/shade.

Again, thanks for all the feedback.

Beautiful new baby

Let us know when she has a name (there is a thread for that lol) She looks pretty perky on that axle for being a '60, did you ask the seller whether the axle had been changed? She also looks very well taken care of, kudos to you for the awesome find!
We all love to see shiny Looking forward to more pics.

I was thinking of calling her BABY

Like Baby in Dirty Dancing. She's all pink and turquoise on the inside. Happy to take suggestions. Looking at Melmac pink dishes on Ebay to start fitting her out.

Again, thanks for all the enthusiasm - now I just need to get some time off to get on the road - you can bet I'm going to make that happen!

Baby sounds great, I called my baby "Bubbles" because she was an extra in the movie 'Carny' with Lou Diamond Phillips and the name seemed suitable for an ageing B movie actress with aspirations and air in her head. She was the only trailer that did not get destroyed at the end of the movie -and the only Airstream. VERY bad B horror flick LOL.
I am trying to figure out how to hook up a bubble machine so that she can make bubbles as we roll along.
The only thing that sucks about being in Ontario (other than winter) is that we cannot get vanity plates Bubbles would fit well on a vanity plate but no can do.
Your AS is REALLY shiny, may I suggest Diamond Lil, or Diamond Lily? The name above just gave me the idea. Whatever you choose, enjoy!!

Thanks Flygrrl. I don't think I can get the DMV to change the title, but its good to know what it really is :-) I'm having a/c w/ heat push and an awning installed now. Practically on the road. Best regards, Sissy
