Shari you were great! Too bad about Fred piece being cut. At least his trailer did make it on the show.

What was the location for the interview with Dale and who's trailer were they following down the road at the end of the segment?

The location was Sloans lake (a couple of blocks from my house) on the border of Denver & Edgewater. It was on the east side of the lake looking west...and it was a beautiful spring day! I felt so sorry for Dale in the wool coat...it was HOT for March ~

Both the trailer in the background at the lake and being followed by the cameraman was Fred's '64 GlobeTrotter.

I am afflicted with living on the east coast. The show did not come on until 10 and yes, I fell asleep around 9:30. Will it be airing again or did anyone DVR it? I was looking forward to seeing the show. This always happens when my wife asks me to come and watch TV with her in bed... If anyone has the show taped, please let me know. I am well rested today, but did not get to see it.

You can purchase a DVD and a companion book of the show directly from PBS.

How could I do that if this is the fourth of a series? Would I not have to wait until they all air, and then air again before it would be offered?

I know someone out there turned on the DVR and they could probably lend me a copy to watch.

Hey Stef:

Shari looked great on the Big Screen . . . I think I see a new career on the shiny horizon. As for me, well, they shot me from my best angle . . . my trailer's butt!

It was a great experience to be behind the scenes, watching them tape numerous segments many times over. I had no idea what the final product would look like, but PBS Oregon and Lion did a superb job in telling the story of Wally's dream - bringing the world's people together thru traveling aluminum. The inter-lacing of old movies clips and vintage photos into the story was beautifully done, and we have Dale to thank for providing most of those historic materials. It was a pure delight to finally meet Toni Ruiz in Denver for the filming - she's a hoot! It was fun being on the factory floor as the sausage was being made, and now I can really appreciate the packaged view from the counter. Kudos to Shari, Dale and Toni for making Airstream History come alive and exposing our cult to viewers worldwide.

And of course I was excited to see them do Shari's interview in Maxwell - I was all 'look look, I've been in that trailer!'

It was all very cool. I was a little surprised they managed to do the whole story without one mention of the WBCCI or the fact that Wallys vision is still alive as people continue to gather together and use their Airstreams for caravans, some more adventurous than others.

When the interview was being taped in Maxwell, I was thinking the same thing. I've been in that trailer too.

Way cool show ya'll.
My PDA beeped 5 minutes before the start, I would have forgotten otherwise, and I fired up the TV, switched to the local over-the-air channels and disaster! NO PBS Signal!

Quick thinking saved the day.... Out to the Airstream, crank up the antenna and turn on the AC.

I watched the entire HD episode sitting in an airconditioned '77 Ambassador while sipping on a glass of Biltmore Merlot

Great show

I thought the show was very well done.Great to see the interviews with Shari and PeeWee.Too bad Fred's got cut.I'm sure it would have been great also.

This show was extra special for me.I've played History Detective on these very Forums over 100 times the last year or so.It's been a lot of fun and I believe very satisifying for both myself and the folks I've tracked numbers for.And yes,I could have tracked this one(3684) fairly quickly but PeeWee's itinerary and list of participants was the clincher.

Great job by all involved in the show.

Thumbs up It was an AWESOME segment!

I called friends and family at 8:50 and said, "WATCH! I know who some of these folks are, you've got to see this."

Everyone looked and sounded great. Too bad they didn't show what's on the cutting room floor. I would have liked to seen Fred's part. But this thread is great, sorta fills in the "behind the scenes" stuff. Pee Wee ~ I love Wally's jacket.

When I was watching it the idea struck me that his investigation was not much different than what goes on here nearly weekly

Not only did they cut Fred, but Toni and I were filmed over a three hour period.

Thumbs up So they don't lost in the shuffle . . .

For those who may have missed them, here are links to a couple of PeeWee's other threads related to this History Detective episode.

History Dectives Airstream Story Plus Some Items

1959 African Caravan Movie Footage

I can't get the PBS slide show to advance, but the Caravan Movie is a must if you haven't seen it.

Thanks PeeWee, for sharing with us and the world. We all love you!

I had problems making the slide show go forward.

Then I clicked on the word not the arrow.

Indeed! I forgot about it and only got to see about the last half. Gonna have to see if it's on again (we actually have two PBS stations in Atlanta).

Mike, how do pick you up PBS broadcasts in Canada? Or are you down here visiting at the moment?

Jim

As long as I can remember,in Atlantic Canada we have had cable piped in from the USA.Most of the stations we get are based in New England. The PBS affiliate for our area is WGBH Boston.
