At the end of this weeks program they showed a quick look at next weeks show. In the background someone says about the African Caravan, "It was the trip of a lifetime." That voice sounded a lot like Dale.
I've got the DVR setup to record, can't wait...

Right down the road!
I didn't realize it but this Airstream episode takes place in Grover Beach, CA which is really close to us. I happened to catch this article the the San Luis Obispo Tribune today...
Posted on Thu, Jul. 17, 2008
PBS show about airstream trailers that filmed in Grover in March will air Monday
An episode of a PBS show that was filmed in Grover Beach in March will air Monday.
A crew from the show “History Detectives” came to Grover Beach on March 14 to investigate an aluminum Airstream trailer that has been at a Le Sage Riviera Mobile Home Park property since 1968.
Doug and Suzy Carr, who bought the property at the park five years ago, called the show to try to determine whether the trailer was one of 41 that Airstream Inc. founder Wally Byam led on a 221-day, 14,307-mile trek from Cape Town, South Africa, to Cairo, Egypt, in 1959.
“A neighbor told us one day that our Airstream might be famous,” Suzy Carr said in March. “So we started researching it ourselves. But that only took us so far.”
Producers of the show have said they were able determine whether the local trailer was part of the caravan. But they’re not letting on before the show airs.
Local residents can find out by watching KCET at 9 p. m. Monday.

FWIW, the PBS station or TV Guide may not reference "Airstream" in it's general listing. The AS bit will be the second of 3 segments and "China Marine Jacket" is the lead segment & title shown.

Looks like it's on at 9 pm local time on WEDU (channel 3) in Tampa on July 21. There is an option for them to send a one-time reminder so you won't miss it. As busy as my schedule is, I think that's a good idea.

A few pictures from the taping in Denver.
I know that they went to Grover Beach, CA, Denver, CO, and Los Angeles, CA.
The stories are highly edited, crafted, and produced.
HD's staff comes from all over The main investigator, and interviewer iis Tukufu Zuberi. Tukufu is a Professor and Chair of Sociology at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA. If you do a web search you find some interesting stuff...he is world renown outside of doing History Detectives and teaching.
The Producer, camera man, organizer, and sound man flew in from Portland to Denver.
Oregon Public Broadcasting has the procedure right down to the last detail.
In Denver they interviewed Tony Ruiz (15 year old African Caravanner), Shari Davis, then VAC national presidnet, Fred Coldwell (VAC historian), and myself.
After the filming, it is in HD, I came home. The crew went on to Los Angeles and the Grover Beach.
I have absolutely no clue as to the outcome. I need to see the program along with the rest of you.

From the latest newspaper articles, it almost sounds like the trailer owners do not know the answer, either.
From the photo's that were published in the original newspaper story I have a strong suspicion on the answer, but I'll respect the shows desire for secrecy until the episode airs.
I have never seen the show before, but I look forward to it. It should be a most interesting episode.

Looks like it went to Mexico, not Africa. Does anyone know where I can view photos of the Mexico trip?

Airstream Life did an amazing write up of this trip a few years ago. Can't remember the issue.
We got a call from a friend to turn on the TV. What a great show. We love History Detectives, but fun to see our forum friends up close and personal. Way to go InsideOut and PeeWee!
