Hi Ravyn1711 - welcome to the Forums!
Let's walk you through the
link Bill gave in post #2. Sample VINs for that year are in the upper left corner of the page -- they say a VIN in the range of O6136 to O6299 would match for a
1955 22' Safari. That is not to say that Airstream produced 163 Safaris that year (only that this VIN range was set aside). 1955 Airstreams might have begun production by June
1954 (others may have better info on this). Your numerical 6223 number probably was fairly far through the 1955 model production -- so maybe actually occurred in early 1955. And then 1956 production began in maybe June 1955. And
1956 Safaris would have a VIN beginning O6300 or higher. My take on this? A mistake was made in assigning year for your title somewhere along the line. The ultimate owner could take this through a perhaps tedious process of having the title changed.
Bill's link actually has photos of 4 (5?) different '55 Safaris. Note the different folders above the photos in the left column.
You've been referred to the maybe not up-to-date pricing at
Price vs. Condition - Airstream Values. Try to compare photos in the folders above with your Airstream to come to some judgement of condition ('As Found,' 'Average,' 'Restored'). Are the interior furnishings original? Never painted over? Are the irreplaceable cabinet latches still there? This could end up being a huge project (low value) or jewel in the rough -- and the price could swing widely.
