Rivet Helen Byam Schwamborn relationship to Wally?

I saw the great original letter posted above, dated 1958, was just wondering what relationship Helen Byam Schwamborn was to Wally Byam. Mike

The following is information provided to me by her son. Helen Byam Schwamborn celebrated her 100th birthday this past August 8, 2004!

"She was Wally Byam's 1st paternal cousin.

She was around Airstream from its conception. She first started working with Airstream and Wally in 1955.

She took a temp job to lead the 1955 Eastern Canadian Caravan, when Wally and Stella went to scout the 1956 European Caravan.

She stayed on with Airstream and worked until 1979 and retired at the age of 75."

During the Salmon Potlatch Rally it was announced that the last of the Byam family had just passed away.

I caught the tail end of the announcement ... so I could be wrong ... but I do believe that it was this lady.

I have a 70s edition of the Caravanner and Helen was author of many of the articles. I get the impression that she was a driving force for WBCCI for a long time. Still, I don't see any signs of her participating in caravans, so I don't know if it was just a job for her at some point. However, she was also active from the very beginning--if I'm not mistaken, that bathing suit photo is from Airstream's first catalog in 1936 (?) when Wally sold a mixed line of traditional trailers (like the photo) and the Clipper. It's posted on the VAC website, fwiw.

Maybe there are some old-timers out there with more of her story.

My Mother Helen, was Wally's first cousin. There fathers, Ray and Bert Byam were brothers.

PeeWee, are you saying Stella was also a model? Which young lady is Stella, is she in the doorway or standing on the ground? Someone should of written on the back of the picture.

Thanks

I believe he intended to say "Stella is not in the picture". PeeWee has stated this several times both online & in person. Both women in the photo were just models...

Jim,

Haste makes waste. It is amazing what occurs when a word is left out or entered wrong. Shame on me.

I have been trying to correct this picture everywhere it exists. This picute is responsible for me meeting Nova Scotia Mike, and Diane of the Sierra Neveda Unit. I appreciate your catching my error. Hopefull this messag will correct the error and correct the history books.

Neither model is known to me. The models are definitely not my Mother nor is it Stel.

This is to correct my error. Stella Byam is not in the picture and is not one of the models. It is also true that my Mother is not in the picture and is note one of the models.

My apologies for the error.
