Fred "Pop" Riley and Minnie Riley
I found this picture and it brought to mind that this is one of the very keystones of the WBCCI. "Pop" was the Clubs first International President.
He was a retired railroad engineer. He was from Arizona, he lived for awhile in Sedona and Avondale.
"Pop" was part of the constitution committee. You know what they did? They gave us the Wally Byam Caravan Club.
Like most of the early Caravanners he went with Wally to Mexico in the early 50's.
He is a freind of yours, because he was a friend to the Club, Wally Byam, Helen Byam Schwamborn, and Airstream.
He's the man!
In finding this picture I see his dog, I don't remember the name of the dog, but I do remember the dog.
There will be pictures of other past presidents and information posted during the next year on the SNU website.

My Mother kept her picture cards from Caravanners. This was one of many. It is appropriate to introduce our first International President to the viewers of Airforum.

Thank you Pee Wee for sharing the history with us. A lot of us who have been involved with WBCCI for a while still don't know much of the history (50's and 60's). You are a valuable resource for us. Happy New Year.

Always good to see the historic pictures of WBCCI and the personal perspective you provide PeeWee.
'Pop' Riley's WBCCI number was number 9.

Does the International Club have a Historian? I have an old Caravanner from I believe the 60's I found in a thrift store I'd like to share.
Robin
I can scan it for anyone interested also.

The 2008 WBCCI lists Loretta Moss as the clubs historian. Her email address is also listed there.
Wouldn't it be great if the club had an online source for historic information before much of it is lost forever.
The closest place to find such a source today that I know of is the Sierra Nevada Units website.Diane Leipper is doing an outstanding job there and I believe the site is second to none for WBCCI history.I'm sure she would be very interested in the Caravanner you have and could add it to her already outstanding site.
I would also love to see it.
Thank you for the offer.

In the pic, Pop is wearing a bolo tie. An AZ trade mark. The official neckwear of AZ.

I would like a scanned copy, or would even to purchase your original copy if you are so inclined. If not, I think it would be better to send the Caravanner to the VAC Historian Fred Coldwell or VAC Librarian Forrest McClure.

The Caravanner, a great Airstream Paper
Here is the cover of the 1st issue.
For many years from 1956 until 1979 my Mother, Helen Byam Schwamborn, was an editior, a writer and a contributor to this fine written history of the Airstream World.
