African Scout Truck 1959 - Floor Plan
This is as close as I can diagram our 1959 Scout Truck.
It was small roughly 8' wide and 10' long (inside).
Several Airforumers have requested that I do this. You can line-up the windows based on my approximate location of the furniture.

Photos matched to layout
I have taken the roadside and curbside pictures and matched them to the layout presentation.
This may assist the interested in the basic design of the 1959 African Scout Truck.

For the amount of time that you lived in the truck, it seems very cramped. It looks like you had no table to sit at while eating. But then again, you were a teenager o the adventure of a lifetime. Thanks for sharing...

Excellent. I have been wondering about the layout of the interior. Seems quite cramp but I don't suppose you spent much time in that small space with all of the traveling and meeting with city/government officials. Keep the info and pictures coming.

Richard and Brad,
Mostly for sleeping. Of course eating, outhouse duties, and bathing.
Stella Byam left for home from Addis Abba, Ethiopia. Her mother was sick. After she left I cooked for five people. Wally Byam, Nick Charles, Arthur Ruiz, Pete Turner and myself. Keep in mind I had a two buner stove and no oven.

Pee Wee, I have three questions, and these are not the same ones that I have for the campfire in about two weeks...
I heard you say there is only one interior photo. Can you post that here?
Can all the photos of the scout truck be combined together and sent to RJ Dial so they can be added to the photo archive?
Where did the trucks go once the caravan was over?

Peewee, as always, thanks so much for sharing.
I really enjoyed meeting you and sharing our dinner table that Saturday night at the Texas Vintage (Frank was green with envy about that I can assure you!) and I only wish I'd had the full weekend at the event and the chance to hear more of your stories.
Thanks again!

Green with envy? Pee Wee is riding shot gun with me on a caravan. I am one of the luckiest Airstreams in the world. I will however save my best questions of him for the campfire.
I am however very curious about the scout truck and do not want to see this thread Highjacked.

Frank,
There are two postings of auxillary vehicles in the history section. The interior picutes is just a picute of the from sofa/bunk in the up position with a youthful mess.
Check them out.
