'65 Overlander With Factory Exterior Paint?

I am looking for info on a recent purchase. I was told that the gold and brown paint seen in the photo underneath the chipping white paint was from the factory and that there was something else unique about this trailer that Airstream was interested in purchasing it. Can someone shed a little light on this?

'65 Overlander With Factory Exterior Paint?

I am looking for info on a recent purchase. I was told that the gold and brown paint (under the white) seen in the picture was original from the factory and that there is something unique about this model as well. From the serial I cant find anything unusual nor can I find any info on a painted (non argosy) airstream. Thanks for the help.

I do not believe the paint is original, though it appears it was done a long time ago, and I cannot prove it is not original. I have not seen an original ainted Airstream from that time period, especially not gold over black.

Paint overspray on the tires is interesting. I see several other signs that the trailer has been modified over the years. The awning was added. The fridge roof vent is missing. And it appears that the tail lights might not be original. It is hard to tell much more from a single photo.

I apologize for the lack of photos, I will get more today. It has been heavily modified by the previous owner, including the white paint over the gold and brown and the rear window being cut into an access door. However he did claim the paint to be original. the trailer came with extensive document so I am going through them now to see if the work was done.

Thank you for your response.

Clearly the gold paint was applied over the Overlander badge. This suggests that it was done after the inner skins were installed or else the badge could have been easily removed for painting. That still doesn't prove it was not done by the factory, but it supports the idea that it could have been done later. It is interesting that whoever did the painting appeared to mask off the rectangular name and serial number plates rather than paint them gold.
