Hi

Dry ice in the cooler and pets left in the TV is *not* a good combination. Be really careful with this one. Even just running down the road, make sure you have ventilation if the dry ice is in with the people and pets. Yes, it's less of an issue with a Yeti than a $20 100 quart monster. It still can be a problem.

There are Plenty of Coolers Better than Yeti

Hey All!

Saw a few discussions recently on Yeti coolers and how they compare to other models now a days. I think Yeti is still a bit too much money, so we made a huge review over a bunch of different coolers that are better than they Yeti for camping.

I am going to grab a K2 or Grizzly off this list, for around $100 less expensive then the Yeti for my next airstream trip!

Thank you!

we have two metal yeti tall coffee cups.

they work VERY well and keep drinks hot for HOURS

we also have their small cooler, we use when we go shopping on hot days to keep the cold items from melting

PS -- Pelican coolers are comparable, have a better latching system IMO, and are made in the USA:

Not really a fan of the Yeti Latches or Handles BUT..............I have had ice last for 7 days with the Yeti not in the sun.

There is a reason that the Yeti is a standard that others are compared to....and don't forget we (or most of us) have Airstreams!

Check out the Walmart knock-off's vs the Yetti koozie and their cold cups also...we did ice tests in the cups overnight with the 2" round ice cubes and also 2" square cubes testing both Walmart and Yetti….no difference we could see, except price; Walmart are about 1/4 price of the Yeti's. Anyway, we gave the Ozark Trail for Christmas last year to our kids...2 of my kids still use the Yeti (name recognition)...other 2 kids use the Ozark Trail cups (likely didn't have a Yeti)...wife and I don't really care which one we use since we have both brands...first one we grab, works well enough and the drink stays cold with both brands...just can afford more "drinks" if you get the Ozark brand!

Love our Walmart 52 quart High Performance Cooler Ozark Trail. It meets all our needs and required quality requirements.

If I were to make a life changing decision of which adult child could manage an Estate Inheritance windfall, I would do the Yeti versus Walmart... Test of Judgment.

If one child chose the Yeti, I would give that one enough money to buy one, including sales tax.

If one or both children chose the Walmart Ozark Trail, they would share the inheritance equally and manage it as a team. Otherwise the more frugal child would have the option to dispense anything, if at all to the other.

My wife and I worked hard and invested our earnings very well. Frivolous spending for 'show and tell' is not one of our personality traits. More frugality, than less. We will pay for the best, but do it wisely. Thus the purchase of an Airstream over an Arctic Fox or some other travel trailer is a good example. Resale is much better on an Airstream.

For the minimal time anyone with a fully optioned out Airstream with freezer and refrigerator. would need an overprice cooler... the price difference of our Ozark Trail would buy a decade of ice.

If both children chose the Yeti using this test while both of us are alive and kicking. We will quit playing 5 cent Video Poker at the Las Vegas Casinos and piss away the windfall on our own and step up to the Craps Tables, which I am totally competent to play and the wife can step into the 25 cent Video Pokers.

Oh, of course. If a nice fly rod went on sale when the trout were biting... I might just forego the Cooler Test, put on my waders and give it a second thought.

Naw.... they can work and buy their own stuff.

Yeah, but they don't say Yeti on them, so......

You Tube has lots of ice tests on Yeti vs. the others. I don't think Yeti ever won. Orca did well. But it doesn't say YETI on it so the cool crowd (no pun intended) won't buy it.

I have had the fortune of shooting several ad campaigns for Yeti and aside from being paid very well I’ve been given a lot of their products. I have three hard coolers 20, 65 and 75 as well as 4 of the soft square ones and countless pieces of the stainless steel drink containers. Also a bunch of the Yeti ice blocks. In all, even though I have only paid for one cup, I’d replace any of it on my dime in a heartbeat. The 75 we take camping and with a couple of the Yet ice blocks in there the ice will last several days in the Texas heat. I travel frequently and never go with out my 32 oz water bottle and 20oz coffee cup.

Yeti is made in the USA again. Sure the stuff is spendy, but it works and is damn near indestructible. I’m so sick of the throw away society as well as plastic waste. With these products, I do my part...

Ian... you could be on my imaginary list!

Anyone who can pull off a campaign like you and getting free stuff is better than the Pizza warmer and bottles of Golden Knights wine the Casino gives us.

My advice. Sell that sleek 1971 Sovereign and tent camp with your collection of Yeti equipment. You will be the envy of all, at the Forest Service campground. Of course, without power, water or internet... you may be by yourself, as we have discovered.

That is what makes America great. Many spend $85,000 for a luxury trailer, fill it up with coolers and then end up camping next to us. Me whizzing in the trees at night and the dogs sniffing around the Yeti's to do the same.

Ray,

I've gotten to do some cool stuff and every now and again get some kick downs...

The Sovereign is in a million and three pieces slowly being reassembled.

We camp in our '78 Avion 28m, it's near perfect.

I still go tent camping and just went with my boy and the yeti held up in the texas summer for 4 days.

I really like your part of Nevada, use to travel through there all the time.

They are really cool. However, I can't find a need for one. The AS has a refrigerator. We drink our water room temp. Occasionally, we take food to an event and we buy one of the inexpensive foam coolers, take the food in it and leave the cooler with the excess food behind as a donation. Those foam things squeak a bunch, so we don't want them around post immediate need.

For the first several trips, we took a small Coleman cooler that we have used for years. Gave up on it as not really needed. It just takes up space that is better used for higher priority items ..... like the sewing and fishing stuff. The dogs have suggested we pack more food.

If I could catch fish, that might be a push to have a fancy cooler. I can't and the places I fish are catch and release so no cooler needed. Besides a cooler would scare the fish. They would think I was serious.

The adult beverages we drink come in a bottle, so no need for a Yetti growler. We have a raft of coffee mugs for the morning Joe. They were giveaways by vendors, gifts at Christmas and occasionally impulse buys to replace the leaky ones. But we really would rather drink coffee from a cup purchased at a memorable stop on the trip. The money gets spent without writing a check for a cooler we don't need. We are cool.

Must admit ...... saw an interesting cooler in the grocery store. Instead of the squeaky foam, it's made of cardboard or similar. The product ad says its biodegradable. May have to get one of those. If I can figure out what I need it to keep cool. Pat

Hi

Like it or not, until the Yeti stuff came along, there pretty much was no option out there. You got a cooler that likely didn't make it through the weekend on a load of ice. That was your only choice. Headed out on a fishing trip for a week with no access to ice? Sorry about your luck

To me the big tradeoff with *all* of the "last forever" designs is that they are pretty huge outside and pretty small inside. I simply don't have the space to lug one around.

Yeti Coolers

I have a few of those pre-packaged meal cardboard box coolers. They have a silver Mylar and foam insert for making them a cooler. A well frozen bag of ice that came with it works fine for short trips from the grocery store in our summer heat. And it’s recycled...

If I need cooling for longer, the fridge in my Airstream is big enough for our needs.

We are always looking for the best value, and after purchasing one of the Lifetime roto-molded coolers from Walmart, we are completely happy. The first trip with it was this summer during the news worthy heatwave in the midwest, and we were right there, between Galena Il and Moline.. cooler performed perfectly. Our AC, barely, our fridge, also barely, but that cooler was cool!

I bought a Yeti. I catch my finger in the handle regularly. It is heavy. It was not made in the US. The latches require a lot of effort. It does not have much room inside, it takes a lot of ice for the initial cooling. After that it holds okay. I tried to give it to my son. He would not take it. I expect I am going to use and hate it a long time. Walmart was out of their coolers when I needed one.

I could not find a cooler I really liked. Everything sends to need to be bear proof now. What if I promise to keep it in the truck, could I get one with straight sides and a simple latch that has good insulation?
