We have three Yeti coolers and the 65 seems to be the one we use most and is great. Any larger and I think it would be too heavy and awkward for one person to pick up (empty). Once full it takes two people to move around.

Hi
The "gotcha" with these coolers (Yeti or Pelican) is that they are big and heavy. If you are used to a "20 quart" Coleman, a 20 quart one of these will be a bit of a surprise. The insulation in the walls is a lot thicker. The weight adds up. Get one with wheels ....

You might also check out the Rtic coolers. Half the price of Yeti, but the same roto-molded design. Free shipping too, I believe. I've had both and from my experience, they perform exactly the same. Durability is the main reason I'll pay the extra money. They will last forever. And yes, lock them down or keep them inside. They will disappear otherwise.

I was looking at the RT
IC however they just lost a case to YETI where they have to pay an undisclosed amount of money and also change what they make. So I am concerned about where they will be in the future.

I have had a Yeti 65 for years and it has worked great for road trips. I normally precool with some ice packs and drop in a couple of pounds of dry ice before we get started on a trip. Anything close to the dry ice will freeze solid. Dry ice is nice since it doesn't make everything all wet inside the cooler and doesn't take up much room. After the dry ice is gone I switch over to regular ice. I normally start off with a packed cooler so by the time the dry ice is gone I have room for ice.
Yeti was the best when it first came out but there are other molded ice chests on the market that are just as good if not better. The Orca and Siberian cooler look promising. I have a Pelican 65 as well but the overall size is larger and I keep gong back to the Yeti.
It is normally the wife and I lugging around the cooler and a 65 is the biggest we can handle when fully loaded. The rubber feet on the bottom make it very hard to slide around. It is nice when you travel but placing it in the bed of the truck can be fun.
Good luck!

Probably better security than Ft. Knox.
I don't know, I can leave my Igloo sit out in the campground and buy an ice maker for less money.
Yuppie status symbol, I swore I'd never buy another Pelican product after I busted my knuckles a hundred times on the old latches.
I loved my Storm cases, and then Pelican bought Storm/Hardigg.

The lawsuit is settled and the new design is being sold now. Basicallly, the appearance is different. I have both the old and new design, from a distance you can't tell the difference. Their corporate headquarters and a retail showroom is in Cypress, Texas.

PS -- On another thread someone mentioned that Cabela's has its own line of super coolers, with favorable pricing. FYI.
On using dry ice, these coolers are so air-tight that the general suggestion is to not lock the lid down, as the off-gassing of the CO2 will create internal pressure which could damage the cooler.
FWIW!

You WILL be at the Sept rally...right?
I'm already concerned about being considered a Snob since we own an Airstream.... I buy cheap coolers to defray the matter....
Seriously,... be careful when using dry ice in closed compartments such as autos, airplanes, small rooms etc., as you'll remember that dry ice is carbon-dioxide and as the ice melts will fill the space with CO2... and that gas "sinks"...and can kill, including yourself, pets, etc.
NO warning will be given... no headaches, no dizziness, no shortness of breath.... you'll simply pass out.... and die if not rescued.

Thanks to all who provided input. I went ahead and purchased the Tundra 45 directly from Yeti. It was not all that expensive, although it was not cheap as coolers go, after they gave me a military discount, free transportation and some Yeti ice. Will use it on our trip to Cape Cod in two weeks.

Will be at Sept Rally. I am going to become King. Your point about the offgassing is well taken, but the Yeti is always in the bed of the truck, never inside.

They are good once "cool" and opened sparsely
Get some dry ice... put in center vertical and horizontally... place a disposable bowl or container upside down or a wad of dry towels..
Close for 30 minutes.. but don't latch. There should be a gas cloud escaping... now, In goes the frozen items around the dry ice with a good space around... that's where the towel works well. Close and latch.
For fridge cold stuff, same technique.. but smaller chunk of dry ice when when items are cool remove remaining dry ice and fill with fresh ice.. as close h purchase as possible.. it melts fast.
Leave closed and plan your open time.. so prior arrangements work best. Once cold, it will keep if unmolested..
BTW, the dry ice can freeze the plastic and ruin any ice chest if it touches very long... also, don't touch the dry ice with bare hands .. be careful.

Purchased a Yeti Tundra 75 and loved the way it performed. It held ice for six days in a bear box during the summer. The only significant complaint we have is that roto molded coolers are heavy and difficult to maneuver around a camp site or within the tow vehicle-Yeti was no exception. We recently purchased a cooler that works equally well with additional features that include multiple drain ports, bottle openers and, most importantly, wheels. The brand is KYSEK, online reviews and product evaluations have been very good. Purchased a 35 QT (BTW-Yeti's model numbers are not the same as their capacity) from Costco at a significantly lower price than the Yeti 45. We use a Yeti Hopper for drinks and the cooler for perishables. Both the Yeti and KYSEK work with dry ice as well.

We have a local grocery store that sells it. You can usually buy it from local welding, or welding gas suppliers.
