We're still working on leftovers from the event we catered on October 15th.
Gemma made dinner on October 17th - pan roasted chicken with a side of golden beets that were on the Salade Nicoise.
And then we had a spinach salad with golden beets and goat cheese (used for the pecan crusted chevre) baguette slices, dressed with Banyuls vinaigrette.
Remember that ahi tune poke? Yep, ahi tuna burgers with golden beets.
Yesterday we went to Gemma's brother's home - potato salad using the baby Yukon Gold potatoes and hard boiled eggs from the Salade Nicoise, and bacon bits from the mini BLTs.
Images of the oven roasted chicken, beet and goat cheese salad and ahi tuna burger (served with rice, of course) below.
Murray went fishing with the guys last Sunday. He was happy that he had something to bring home after pulling out the Boston Whaler from the storage facility. So, yesterday we had grilled striped bass with tomatoes from our garden. And rice. Can't forget the rice.
OK, ate at the "Fish House". Really good food. We had Grits à Ya Ya:
Spiced Gulf jumbo shrimp topped w/ a sauté of spinach, portobello mushrooms, applewood-smoked bacon, garlic, shallots, and cream over a heaping bed of smoked Gouda cheese grits. Bon eats, y’all! Also Crab-stuffed Mahi-Mahi:
Herb- and bacon-crusted mahi-mahi stuffed with crab, pan-seared and served over orzo pasta
tossed with portobello mushrooms, onions, fresh spinach, and sun-dried tomato pesto;
finished with grilled scallions and lemon butter sauce!
What else are vacations for?

We were in Pleasant Hill on November 10th and had dinner at Jack's.
Gemma had the spaghetti and clams to start (leftovers for lunch the next day) and fried chicken for dinner (more leftovers for lunch the next day). Ugh, sorry, just realized the image of the fried chicken is blurrier than usual. Murray had the wedge salad with blue cheese and a balsamic reduction dressing, and lamb chops for dinner.
WE shared a huge caramelized banana split for dessert.
We think we've started a new tradition. It's our second year in a row making Thanksgiving dinner before Thanksgiving. We always go to visit family on Thanksgiving and Gemma's always anxious about the turkey wings to guests ratio, so last year we made it official - we were having Thanksgiving before Thanksgiving. (Last year was Pre Thanksgiving Beta and based on the focus group made up of our friends we are moving forward.)
So here's the table, set for eleven guests and set by our youngest guest, Julius, 3, with some help from his "Auntie" Gemma. (He decided he wanted a ecru colored napkin at his place setting instead of the pumpkin colored napkins everyone else had. See his glass of milk?)
Roast turkey, dressing/stuffing made with honey crisp apples, giblet gravy, creamed spinach, southern sweet potatoes - slow poached with butter and brown sugar, and mashed potatoes. We also had rolls, canned cranberry sauce cut into round slices, black olives and rice for the various folks who felt it wouldn't be Thanksgiving without them.
Tiramisu and chocolate mousse pie from Dianda's in San Francisco rounded out the meal.
Turkey and rice for lunch after we post this.
Happy Pre Thanksgiving everyone. We have so much to be grateful for, including AirForums and all of the friends that we've made on this forum.
Yesterday Gemma took Murray to dinner and drinks to thank him for cooking up a storm for our Pre Thanksgiving dinner.
We went to Havana and started the evening off with a 10 Cane mojito and then had dinner at the bar. Grilled shrimp with sofrito rice, boniato garlic fries with chimichurri aioli and guava "ketchup", skirt steak with chimichurri sauce and shoestring boniato fries and a wedge salad with a chipotle dressing followed. Flan for dessert!
Sorry, the images are worse than usual but it was impossibly dark at the bar.
(Turkey, gravy, sweet potatoes and rice for lunch again today.)
We are going to inlaws on thanksgiving, after that we will have our own little Thanksgiving dinner at the campsite, Airstream style! Ill post pics here when we return.
Barbecue at Spring Creek Barbecue in Garland, Tx after dropping the AS off at storage after spending the weekend fixing stuff and winterizing. Love their lean brisket dinner and hot baked rolls
We were both working late last night on one of our rental properties and were starving by the time we got done. So, . . .
we had dinner at Ronald's house. Ronald McDonald. MacDoubles and those addictive fries. We shared a large diet Coke.
No images, 'cause we think you know what our meal looked like.
We'll make up for it tonight. We'll (Murray will) be making marshmallows from scratch. Mint, mint chocolate chip, vanilla bean and chocolate marshmallows to bring to tomorrow's Thanksgiving dinner, to go his sinfully rich hot chocolate, made with bittersweet chocolate ganache. We'll hand whip cream to top it all off when we get there.
And we're dining with friends tonight. We like to call it our Dr. Seuss/Whoville Christmas dinner. Roast Beast! (Prime rib.) With Yorkshire pudding and Murray's peas in cream sauce. Does anyone remember Birdseye Peas in Cream Sauce that came in those small squarish bricks in the freezer section. Gemma first had them when she first moved to the United States in the seventies. America, what a great country! We can't find them anymore. Has anyone seem them stocked at their grocery stores? Or were they discontined? But we digress . . .
Yes, we know we're cooking a "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" dinner more than a month before Christmas, but we can't roast another turkey, no matter how much Gemma would like some more turkey wings. She'll just have to hope there aren't any little kids that want a wing or two tomorrow. ( She has no problem elbowing adults.)
Has anyone started on their Thanksgiving preparations? What's everyone having? Dressing? Cranberry sauce? Homemade or jellied with the rings-o-deliciousness? Sweet potatoes?
Here's your recipe if you don't have one.......(1) large cabage head...(1) medium onion, chopped, (1) bell pepper, chopped, ..... cabage head chopped up fine, add onion and bell pepper.....sprinkle (1) cup of sugar over this and let it set......Bring to boil (1) cup white vinegar, 3/4 cup of vegetable oil, (1) tablespoon mustard seed, (1) tablespoon of celery seed, and (3) tablespoons of salt. Pour this over the sugared mix above....Set in refrigerator, and wait (4) hour and then stir.......For those who have only had milk type coleslaw and like the taste of vinegar, this is really good...And it will keep in your Airstream refrigerator for a month.....
Just pulled the turkey out of the brine.
Now it's sitting in the fridge waiting for a good slathering of sage butter tomorrow (which my 11-year loves to apply ).
Turkey broth chilling.
Corn pudding with poblano, Havarti and bacon is ready and is going to taste Amazing.
Pumpkin and apple pies cooling.
Cranberries made yesterday were a definite homerun with the addition of a little dijon at the end.
Cornbread all baked and waiting to be some kind of stuffing tomorrow.
Yukon Gold garlic mashed potatoes, giblet gravy and bacon braised string beans will be made tomorrow.
White wines: Trimbach Riesling and Gewurztraminer
Red: Burgundy, Burgundy, Burgundy!
And a 20-year old Bourbon specially bought for one of my favorite AirForum friends who will, along with his family, honor us this holiday weekend.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Last night we had Grilled Talapia w/ a "pesto based marinade", skewered shrimp, steamed broccoli, salad, and toasted fresh garlic bread. Desert was "Not yo momma's Banana Pudding". We also like to brine our turkey (24 pounder, yikes) 'bout time to remove it from the brine and I like to let it "rest' and dry a few hours before cooking to get a crispier skin! A turkey this big,
gemma wouldn't have to "elbow" anyone! LOL As for the Dressing, we like to throw in some craisens, diced green apples, and a splash of white wine. Happy Thanksgiving (oh.., yeah, "slap chop" has become my new favorite kitchen gadget.)

We had friends over for roast beast/beef on our monthaversary.
Images below of the roast beast, creamed peas, a huge Yorkshire pudding, horseradish cream sauce, rice and some left over stuffing from our Pre Thanksgiving dinner.
Stay tuned for the Thanksgiving Thanksgiving (no, really, we mean it, you know, Thanksgiving on Thanksgiving) table-o-pies.
Well we had Thanksgiving on Friday, our daughter couldn't get off work to be here in time for dinner, and Natalie's brother wasn't sure if he could get off early enough to get from B'ham to us in time for dinner, we're flexible (thank goodness). On Thanksgiving we had a smoked boston butt, mashed taters, rolls, broccoli cheese casserole, peas from her mom's garden, and condiments. After Thanksgiving we tried something new. We grilled Turkey Quesadilla's with rainbow swiss chard from our garden, cheese, and condiments, very cold to grill outside but very tasty and easy. It may become a tradition! Time will tell. We may do another turkey before X-mas to experiment.
Bon Apetite. Steelegood.

We made our annual Thanksgiving trip to the Modesto to spend the day with family.
Here's what we had:
Turkey (three of them, one of them smoked)
Ham baked with peaches and pineapple
Mashed potatoes, Stovetop stuffing (it was Gemma's first time trying it and she has declared it delicious!)
Sweet potatoes, green beans, red cabbage slaw, homemade rolls, deviled eggs, olives, pickles, cranberry sauce (whole and jellied), croutons with goat cheese
and last but not least, the Table-O-Pies! Pumpkin, apple, blackberry, lemon meringue, gluten-free apple, gluten-free pumpkin, chocolate pie. Additional desserts: zucchini bread with and without nuts and six year old Olivia's "Rainbow Jello". (She made it mostly by herself.) You know the kind where layers of different colored and flavored gelatin are separated by a white layer. Well, Olivia's was just like that except that there wasn't a white layer to separate colors and all of the flavors Olivia chose were red in color, but were all different flavors as she pointed out. (Olivia's Rainbow Jello in the forefront.)
We brought Murray's hot chocolate and served it up with hand-whipped cream and homemade chocolate, mint and vanilla marshmallows.
