Hi all -

It seems the Weber "q" series are a hit with the 'streamers. We'd like to be able to use the low-pressure tap on the front of our Sport 22FB.

This showed up on Craigslist and I'm wondering if it's a good candidate. https://portland.craigslist.org/wsc/...999038784.html

It sounds like the regulator has some issues, but if I understand correctly, I'd be removing the regulator anyway because I'm using low-pressure gas already.

Nobody swoop in and buy it now!

Yes it will work fine, yes you do need to remove the stock regulator, I use a quick connect adapter and hose

The W2200 may be larger than you need. Most use the Q1200.

I don't think its a good deal. It doesn't have the thermometer on the front so is it a Weber 1000? Those are $179 new. https://www.lowes.com/pd/Weber-Weber...001/1000240905

I'd buy a brand new Weber 1200 for $209 at Lowe's. I use the thermometer all the time to regulate the heat. https://www.lowes.com/pd/Weber-Q-120...Grill/50330263

I thought I saw a Weber Q 1200 at Ace Hardware last week for $199.

But yes, you remove the stock regulator on a Weber Q to use the low pressure port.

Agree the cart and tools it come with you will never use, offer $100 and put your own thermometer on the front

I have a Q2200 and love it. I bought a 10lb propane bottle and 3 ft hose instead of using my AS propane system. I like the ability to move the grill around . The 10 lb bottle is easy to transport and lasts months on a fill.

I thought there were issues with using a 'normal' Weber with the propane port on Airstreams - which is why Airstream went in with Weber to create a special version of the Weber that would work well or correctly or optimally with our Airstream's port. I've seen it sold on Airstream Store's page. Would love some clarification on this. Thanks for starting this thread.

This is the larger Weber so you have to compare that price not the smaller unit. I say go for it if you can handle the larger size and change that lousy regulator out for the adapter made for it. I'd buy my own hose with regulator and use a bigger tank than the 5 lb. he is offering. I have the smaller unit with roller bag and considering the regulator delete myself.

I would forget the grill and get a small Blackstone griddle. I leave my Weber Q home ever since we got the Blackstone.

I have a Q-1000 (aka Baby Q) which was an unused return and was clearance price for $50. I also found a matching Weber cover for it along with the matching Weber rolling stand. I know mine has a regulator on it so I have a small 11 lb tank that I carry with me. In a pinch if that small tank goes dry, I just remove the hose on one of my 30 lb tanks on the Airstream and hook up to the disconnected tank. It's a wonderful grill and typically you can cook very easily with the burner control know set to its lowest setting. My grill is about 18 years old. Have not had to replace any parts as of yet.

look for online plans to convert the AS connection to one that can be use by the weber Q

it converts the system from high pressure to low pressure
easy to do and just a bunch of adapter and a cheap regulator

no changes on the AS, just on the weber Q

I converted my Q to low pressure and it works great. I can also still use a bottle or 20lb tank with a hose that includes a regulator.

I bought the small Blackstone griddle this past summer. I got it for 50 bucks clearance at Walmart, but I still haven’t used it yet. I have been taking my 18 inch Weber kettle with us all summer as I just love the charcoal flavor. I know it’s a little messy but I’ll put up with it for a while longer.

As for the griddle, we have camped 6 times this summer so my question is how to store it in between times? I want to like it and will give it a try next year.

The main difference between the "normal" Q1200 and the Airstream version is that the Airstream version comes with a quick connect hose and no pressure regulator and will operate from the Airstream propane port right out of the box. It's not set up to work with propane bottles or separate tanks.

The normal Q1200 has a regulator and will work with the small 16oz propane bottles or can be adapted to work with larger propane tanks but it won't work from the Airstream port.

The problem with having the pressure regulator is that the propane port on your Airstream is already a low pressure source. The regulator reduces the pressure further, to the point where insufficient propane is supplied to the grill for it to work properly.

Some folks have removed the regulator from a regular Q1200 and added a quick connect adaptor and hose. Then the grill will then work fine with the low pressure port on an Airstream. I went the other way and bought one of the Airstream versions. Love it.

The 2200 has 280 in/sq cooking surface while the 1200 has 189 in/sq.

If it were me, and the CL one was selling for $130 or less, I'd be all over it.
But at $185 it's too close to the price of a new 1200 with a smaller grate, but how often will you need an extra 90 inches?
Yes, the accessories are nice.

I also have the Blackstone 17", and it's great. Cook eggs, hash browns, fish, and lots of things not suitable for a BBQ. Heavy!

Several years ago we bought our son a Weber Q220 (older version of the Q2200) with a cart for his apartment balcony. He’s now married with a house and inherited a grill from his in-laws.

He offered us the Weber for our Airstream which we took to Colorado in August. I converted it to use the low pressure port and got a 12’ extension hose. I found the extra cooking surface handy for chicken breast and asparagus. The grill and cart fit in the truck bed under the BakFlip tonneau cover too.

Size really depends on how you use it and a spot to transport it. I’ll take the larger grill

OP here, thanks for the perspectives, everyone.

I am going to pass this one up. For my small family it is probably larger than I want, and I am already somehow looking for ways to downsize the truckload of gear we are bringing along.

I really appreciate the Blackstone being mentioned. I actually think I'm going to go that direction. I'd take a "smash burger" on a griddle over a flame broiled burger any day. Keep that lovely fat where it belongs, on my food!

(and I am really good at burning food on grills....those dang flareups).

Plus I like the idea of pancakes cooked outside.

Time to dig in and start researching the Blackstone!

We absolutely love our Blackstone grill. It has become our 'go-to' cooking device for eggs,bacon, sausage and pancakes! We have cooked breakfast over campfire for years, for an annual week long family camp-out in the mountains. We normally have twenty to thirty to cook for. The Blackstone saves a lot of tears caused by campfire smoke!

I gave away the q200 and bought the q100 (older model numbers). Perfect size for 2 or 3 people. I like the cart for it as well. I purchased a 10lb propane tank for it. Not sure on the prices, but they don't sound out of line, since you're getting the cart. But in my opinion the smaller of these grills is the best option.
